Hi there,

The card is not giving any output after a freeze up on ArmA2. Thinking 5870, which are all pre-order on OCUK. Any alternatives or anything much better round the corner?

Playing ArmA2 on low settings on a 8800GTS for now.

i think wait a bit and get something better. i dont think 5870 holds a significant improvement over the 4870x2 for its price.

The 4870x2 2GB was great, but is broken vian siu, just want to match it unless there is something better round the corner. Alan J, I am pretty sure it is dead. I have fitted an arctic cooling fan which was for a reference board design, mine wasn't a reference design. Worked for a while but since the lock up only replacing the card with the 8800 works. The usual DVI port is dead and the second one gives a bluescreen on boot with white lines and blocks over the display.

Is the 5870x2 far away?

I assumed fitting the cooler would have voided that, there are some scratches on the back plate so it would be obvious the card had been worked on. The 5870x2 might be worth the delay.. playing in 1920x1200 to 35-45 fps in ArmA2 really sucks up the hardware.

How much more was the 4870x2 when it came out over the 4870's?

I know how it feels to have a 4870x2 die on you :(.

Tbh, I would wait until the 5870x2 is out. As said before theres not much if any with the 5870

Funnily enough, I did try the, "oven trick", on the 4870x2. Thank you, straxussi, 200 C for 10 mins and it's as right as rain. (For now!)

if you absolutellllly need an upgrade now then ye geta 5870, but if u can wait get the new nvidia cards

Hi, sorry I had updated the post because I put the bust 4870x2, that I had wanted to replace, in the oven. Now it works again!

Nah m8, sold it cheapo to a friend ages ago. I expect he resurrected it with that method though. :)
Don't think I was even aware of it at the time.
