"4870x2 reviews thread"

Translation from German original

An innovation of the RV770, to this day, a well-guarded secret still is the so-called Crossfire-X Interconnect. On request, AMD just moved out that the communication between two GPUs on a graphics chip would accelerate, therefore chips as the HD 4870 X2, on a PCB combines two GPUs, will benefit. Now, by the colleagues of "smart Hell" an AMD-up document, which brings light into the darkness.
AMD Crossfire-X-Interconnect: HD 3870 X2 vs. HD 4870 X2

Accordingly, Crossfire-X Interconnect nothing more than a data interface between two graphics chips on a so-called Side port. The combination provides bi-directional 5 GB / s. The fact that AMD's HD 4870 X2 also on PCI-Express of the second generation, AMD expects that the data exchange between the two RV770 GPUs on the HD 4870 X2 with 21.8 GB/s of three times as fast as the HD 3870 X2

AMD preping Catalyst drivers for Radeon HD 4870X2 launch

While the headline might seem like something rather obvious, there is a bit more to it than meets the eye. AMD is quite happy with how RV770 performs, almost an understatement, but there is still a lot of room for CrossFire optimizations. We've already seen what Radeon HD 4870X2 can do through the previews posted a while back, but apparently AMD is hoping wow to the people by tweaking the drivers before the launch. The best thing about it is that this will also improve performance with Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 CrossFire setups. Exact numbers will of course between games, but there should be noticeable improvements across the board.
