I bought second hand from some one, what I noticed when I first seen my card was that the plastic film cover on the card were it says 4970x2 with a fancy picture etc had a bubble effect, which now I no was caused by heat.

I cant give temps yet as need to setup internet on my PC to download software but putting my hand around the card and the vent fans pulling the heat out its as hot as a electric heater and that is no joke!.

It amazes me manufacturers make these card with crap cooling fans, this card should have been made with at least 2-3 fans on it!, for F sake its got 2 cards stuck together.

Is the sign of card causing the plastic front bit to bubble time for a RMA or something ?

I`ve just bought a brand new sapphire 4870x2 for OC`s an iam just testing it now ..

temps sat on the desktop about 49/50 deg with fan set to 45% in CCC

its about 9-10 deg hotter than my last card which isn`t bad as u say its 2 cards bolted together ..

if the plastic has bubbled as u say then i`d say its got very hot !!! to do that ,
unless the plastic was not put on correctly at the factory an someone bodge it ...

whats the ventilation like in ur case? What other components do u have in it? My 4870X2 was like a hairdryer blowing out the back, much hotter than my 8800GTX.

whats the scroe with powercolor RMA I read on there site they dont offer RMA bit confused as read on the internet you do get RMA ?

yer mine is like a hairdryer out the back. my case has great ventalation mate. I will post back with some temps which should tell the story really

As loadsamoney said the x2 is not 2 cards bolted together its 2 gpu's on the same board. From what i have seen with a decent fan speed the cards don't run that hot maybe you just have a borked card. Also the fact you bought it second hand probably tells me the old owner knew the card had problems and decided to punt it before it failed completely.

For your reference, my temps with powercolor 4870x2 and antec 900 case...
46c for one gpu and 41c for the other with fan @31%...i run it at 45% fan when gaming.

I had a clients pc recently, had two 4870x2 cards in it and in an antec 1200 case, the idle temp in CCC was reported to be 85c, the case temp was 55c
