At present on idle mine is very cool, especially when you consider how hot the card can get and that it's summer. My fan is set to 29% and the gpu's are reading 35 and 46C. It's when I finish a gaming session or when I take a break and reduce the fan speed back down to around 30% - that then is when you can feel the heat wave, imo anyway. :)
Bit like a car, drive at 80 mph, temp read out is cool due to the fast air flow, slow down at the traffic lights and watch the needle rise.

To the op.. I'd just stick with what you have graphics wise, it doesn't appear to say in your sig, so i'll suggest you get an SSD, it's the biggest step in performance i've ever made to my PC and I can't recommend them enough. I'm assuming your framerates in game are fine, so why not get those load times down a bit! hehe.

I have 1tera western digital with win 7 pro on it how do I install that and keep what Ive got ? don't you lose everything with a new drive

what about picking up a cheap 30GB drive to install windows on ? and then put your other HDD into the pc and just keep all the stuff.

Like everyone else has said, keep the card, keep your money (or put it towards something else worthwhile). I too have a 4870X2. It's watercooled. Love it :) although at present I've ran into problems (over 18mths after initial purchase), but I'm hoping it's nothing major :)
