Want to try a xfire 4870x2 + 4870.
Now i only have a corsair 650w powersupply.
But the power supply only powers a ud5 with 920 @3.8 and the 4870x2.
All the hardrives and fans and lighting are run of an independant antec truepower 380.
If i connected up pcie adapters to the molex connection on the corsair does anyone think it would run the 4870 aswell.
None of the sata or molex conections are used on the corsair.

????

It should be fine, 650w should just be enough to run the 920 and the two cards, although perhaps use the 380 to power the motherboard as well to help share the load?

i believe the 4*** were power hungry cards, find out what the max load power consumption is for each and do a bit of 2+2. I think you might be at the very limit of that psu with those 2 running, i'm sure others can clarify better.

I was hopeing it might.
Or if i took the pcie adapters from each of the power supplies.
Using molex from 380 and 650.
I originally ordered an upgrade to the 650 with the pc i bought from overclockers to a 950 with this plan in mind.
But it turned up with the 650 and the wouldn't let me just send the power supply back they wanted the hole pc and they said it could be up to a 3 week turn around. So i just got a refund.
I do have another spare 450 watt power supply witha rating of 16 amp on the 12v.
I will also have to put the 4870 in the first pcix16 slot as the 4870x2 has the 3slot extreame cooler on it so it will have to sit in the 2nd pcix16. Any tricks with the ud5 to make the motherboard swap them round in bios.????

There was a prototype HD 3870X3 using mobile chips.

Image a mobility radeon 5870X3, it would be 3x 5770 cards on one board lol.

Well i was cruising a auction site and someone was selling brand new Akasa PowerMax 850W Power Supplies [AK-P085FG-BKUK] for £65 inc next day delivery. So cheap i should have bought 2. Any body had any joy using these power supplies?
