Hey guys im just wondering how ur all getting along with yours cards.

I have the normal XFX 4890 1GB and ati overdrives says its stable at 980core first try.

fan speed is 50% with idle temps of 54c.

the funny thing is i think my pc is having major problems aftering switching from nv without a format and even then l4d seemed screwed on the 8800GTX.

L4D, 1680x1050, application controlled 4xAA 16XA,F Vsync, ati CCC everything max, ingame maximum settings.

mostly 55fps but with hordes it can go down to 30.the start of dead air is 40-50fps.surely this is wrong?it used to be ok but recently everythings went down the pan both with smoothness and fps.two formats did not resolve the issue with the 8800gtx and l4d and vista.

C2D 2.8 (400bus)
4gb 800mhz ram
ATI 4890 latest drivers
600w psu everything stable

can anyone else share thiers fps with similar setups and thier temps and clocks?

From reviews I've seen for Left for Dead, those frame rates aren't right.

It may be worth overclocking your CPUa little bit too. I'd go for a format personally, it takes so little time to do, it's usually far quicker than troubleshooting for hours.

i was blaming vista myself and am eager to find myself a xp cd somewhere tomorrow which i know i have hidden in a box somewhere.

my cpu aint great but its still decent and i should think l4d should never go below 60 9on my setup in any scene at 4xAA 1080p

the cpu is already overclocked its a 1.8 now at 2.8 (400bus) and my ram is at its limit.
i cant go further without ram and even then its a £40 risk im already at the boards limit.400fsb is pretty high for a 965p DS3

If it is Vista, then you've botched your installation, or there's some horrible driver conflict going on.

Why not try Windows 7? It's free after all.

what drivers are you using? I had that problem with 9-6s

went back to 9-5s lol

The ATI overdrive test is crap. Told me my clocks were stable and I got mega lockups and bsods. Best to start at 20Mhz intervals on clock and 100Mhz on memory. I got my memory speed stable first (1100 stable with a tiny bit of headroom / 925 core with 5mhz headroom) no voltage mods.

THe FPS you're getting seems quite low...

Rofflav i have almost identicle spec to you but still have an 8800gtx. Was looking at the 1gb 4890's on this weeks deal of the week, what kind of performance increases are you havingm when your not having conflict issues etc? Is it worth the 130quid upgrade or however much it is?

right no mate i cant see any really but im confident its my system.

you really need to look at benchmarks as in those the 4890 does shine ahead.i never bought it as an iupgrade though.

my 8800 gtx died a few days ago after 2y years 6 motnhs of 621/1620/999 @ 55c idle :(

ona side note i just put in a XFX 4890XT over the normal xfx one and the fans are different.

one is clearly louder than the other lol the non xt is fine at 50% but the XT is crazy loud at 50%.

perhaps me leaving the fan speed on 50% in overdrive then switching cards done that?
