Hi guys, im having a lot of problems here with my set up trying to play newer games. Its an i7 d0 with asus 4890 xfire and an evga x58 mobo. Im on w7 7100. I also have the latest ati drivers.

The problem is especially bad with arma 2. With all settings on med/low and 1920x1080 res im getting about 24 fps, and its really really stuttery. Even the menus are laggy. I have reinstalled numerous times.

Nothing is overclocked apart from dummy oc enabled in bios on the cpu. When first built I was getting very low 3dm06 scores, but I think the latest was about 21k ( I know vantage is a better test but it often crashes for me or gives me a really low score again).

Could I have connected the cards up incorrectly? It has been my first proper build. Is there anything I can use to test if they are working correctly that isnt 3dm?

I cant think what else the problem could be but im sure you guys will help me find out.

Thanks so much and if this would be better off in the graphics card section im sorry.

cheers :(

edit - even with xfire disabled its **** poor!

Have you added the" -winxp" fix to the end of your games target path?
If not, right click on your Arma2 icon, select "properties" and at the end of the file path shown in target, add " -winxp"
you can also check if crossfire is enabled by right clicking the Ati tab, bottom right of tool bar, select a GFX card, crossfire settings and select "show crossfireX status icon"
you should see a Crossfire logo in the top right of the screen when in a game that has crossfire enabled.

Yeah thanks did that, got it to about 30 fps :s, am going through the tweaks now but currently it is unplayable its so bad

im having problems getting it to run smooth aswell i have got crossfire working with the tweaks but game is very jerky losing my patience fast as i have been tweaking for well over 2 hours now.

Take one of the cards out and see if you get an improvement. Seriously, a lot of games just aren't optimised for crossfire or SLI, and run better without them.

The only game i have had no increase in performance is FSX, the gains will vary from game to game and there are some poorly optimised games out there, but other than FSX as mentioned, i have had no problems with crossfire and see great gains over running a single card, Arma2 after adding the -winxp fix my FPS went up from mid 30's to mid 50's.

If this is affecting all of your games I would look at a more general issue. But I can't think of anything in particular for your new build. I would try stripping it back to basics, CPU, RAM, Gfx and seeing if that affects it.

Have you installed your mobo chipset drivers?

And what is Dummy OC, I don't like the sound of that.

I will try and turn off HT tonight and see if that helps. I will give it a quick blast with one card removed now and see what sort of fps I get.

Other games arent as bad, but I think I should deffinately be getting better performance than I am, which is why I thought it may be a general issue.

Im sure ive got the chipset drivers but will double check.

Dummy oc was an option in the bios, I enabled it and it clocked the cpu to 3.19 ghz.

thanks for the replys!

edit, hmm on one card, with same settings med/low and high AA im now getting about 60 fps.

will try the other card on its own later as well.

It seems to be a lot better until I set the 3d resolution to 1920x1080 which is my native - im using a tv atm as im having to sell my monitor shortly, will this make a difference?

This is driving me mad now, ive reinstalled drivers, updated bios, disabled ht, tried one card and got a fps boost to about 40 on the med/low settings.

Tried running xfire again and it dies. Any sort of AA makes it unplayable. Also objects keep appearing and dissapearing randomly.

i would like to know why this game runs so bad too, my rig is very similar to yours and i have all the problems you are having.
now it cant be both are rigs that are to blame?.
my personal opion is that the game is badly optimized even after the patch, but saying that ppl are playing this without any issues very strange.

Is the menu video with the aircraft carrier very laggy for you as well?

Its just annoyed me more as I dont buy very many games, then I shell out £30 for this and its unplayable.

Together we can solve this!

yes! i noticed that i soon as i booted up game for the first time.
then when on the boat at the beginning of the game and you get briefed in the room, that is very very laggy for me aswell.
i have been a bit drastic and advertised this on the MM as ive lost my rag with this game we shouldnt have to do all this tweaking especially with our system specs.
