4890 fan noise

Just installed a Powercolor HD4890 and all seems fine, but the fan makes this awful buzzing noise during 3D load.

It's not the normal high fps capacitor squeal, but definitely a buzzing sound from the fans when they spin up.

Anyone else getting this? Is it normal?

It's not hugely noticeable but my previous 4870 definitely did not exhibit this 'buzzing' noise.

My HD4850 did that a first then it stopped, seems normal. Not heard it on my HD4890 though.

Yeah, seems the fan needs some breaking in. Ran Furmark for half an hour and the buzzing sound as subsided a little and it's more of a "wooshing" sound now.

Still, it's cosiderably louder than the 4870 cooler, but at the same time temps are a good 20 degrees lower.

this is driving me nuts my first 4890 has coil whine and was unbearable.

the new one the XT has a buzzing this time from the fan.the old one has a nice whoosh but this one just vibrates and humm's. 20% is unbearable only 25% has little to none.

heartbreaking tho wot to do huh?

Noticable im games but not as bad as my 8800 that was in there before.

does the 4890 fan go 100% during a reboot for you?

my first did not then i swapped in a new xt and wham screaming fan when i reboot and get past the bios for 1-2 sec

Sounds like u can safely decrease the fan speed.
