4890 fan speed problem

Hi,
I just bought a Sapphire hd4890 to replace my previous card, but the fan speed on the 4890 is currently way too high. From what I can tell, the fan is stuck at 100% and refuses to go any lower despite what it's being told to do. The control centre reports it as being at 12%, but it sounds like it should be hovering a few feet in the air so I don't quite believe that - especially when you consider the idle temp is 41 celcius. I've tried manually overriding the fan speed using CCC, but 20% and 100% sound exactly the same.

From what I can tell the software is telling it to slow down, but the actual card isn't responding. Has anyone had a problem like this before and is it a hardware fault?

Thanks

Thanks for the advice!

I checked the card and unfortunately rather than the pins not being connected to the header, the header wasn't properly connected to the board! I gentle push put it back in position, but I'm not exactly sure I can trust it anymore... but on the other hand I can hardly RMA it because it's working fine now.

Guess I'll try running it for a while and if it acts up I'll see about replacing it. Thanks again!

Sometimes the plastic header can pull up from the pins, but the pins go through the pcb and are soldered to the board so as long as they are OK you should be fine.

Anyway glad to hear it's working ok now...the 4890 fan stuck on 100% would be a nightmare lol.
