5770 should clock better than a 4890 so the performance gap will be narrowed.
Its the 128bit memory bus where the hit comes on the 5770 though.

Phil, I went from the 3870 to the 4890, didn't take much thinking to be honest, the 4890 is fasterthan the 5770 at stock speeds and also overclocks well so is still faster after overclocking. Similar specs of rig as yours too but I already have the 24" screen and now get to turn all the candy on.
As an example GTAIV ran at 1680x1050 with settings at medium on the 3870, now runs at 1920x1200 with settings at high on the 4890.
