In SLI v Crossfire taking a good range of games on balance neither is faster than the other... the 4890 hardware is faster but SLI is more matured - however at the resolutions where you'd really have to be playing to need such a multi GPU setup the extra VRAM on the 4890 would probably be useful in the long run.
Single card performance the 4890 is a reasonable bit faster on balance.
