4890 replacement advice

Hi chaps, iam horribly out of date with graphics cards of the past couple of years so could do with a couple of suggestions.

Iam fairly sure my card is dying a death and currently only works consistently while considerably underclocked.

Current machine


I5k @ 3.6
8gb ram
4890 1gb

Looking to replace the 4890 for another card around the £200 price range but there is wiggle room in that if a substantial jump in performance is available for a bit more. My case cannot hold a bigger card so some of the mahoosive modern cards arent usable.

Current monitor maxes at 1980x1200 and is mostly used for gaming and I have no preference in make.

7870 wf = 10.24 in

Maybe, maybe not, only the OP can tell us, it's not a mahoosive card like the 6950 though

Worth noting that the 4890 only fits with the power wires on the end rubbing the hard drive cage, the cage is removable but is currently in use.

Measure your current GPU bud and then compare. 16 inches for a card is a huge space.

I just upgraded from a 4890 ,to the gigabyte windforce 670,it is a really nice upgrade ,about inch longer than 4890 but fit my antec 300 ok also the power connectors are on the side ,so that helps ,i know it is more than you said you want to pay ,but just in case ,also why don't you overclock your i5 easily get it to 4, mine is 24/7 4.6 ,that would help you also.

Yes they are backward compatible.Dx part is not applicable i think.
