Hi all,

I bought an Asus 4890 last week from OcUK and it was fine until I noticed that my screen seemed to flicker at certain times. At first I just put it down to some glitch in the drivers or something but now that I've used it for a week or so it seems to do it quite a lot and I'm starting to wonder if I've got a dud card on my hands.

When I have CCC open on my desktop the screen flickers every few seconds continuously which is why I put it down to a driver glitch but now I've noticed that everytime I open notepad, the screen flickers in the same way as when I have CCC open. When gaming the screen flickers on loading screens and today I found out that it flickers playing Fallout 3, not only on loading screens, but throughout the gameplay aswell. Also it flickers occasionally while watching movies with Vlc player and when I view pictures in the win7 image viewer.

It seems like some sort of refresh rate issue but nothing I change in CCC makes any difference. I'm using a Samsung T200 20" LCD @ 1680x1050 which has been fine on my old 8800GT since I bought it.

I've done a bit of googling but cant seem to find anyone with the same issue using the same card..

The card is: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-209-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1403

Any ideas anyone?

Have you tried in ccc settings putting vsync to always on ?

Have you tried ati tray tools and setting vsync on that ? uninstall ccc and use the driver only then use ati tray tools, i remember i had the same issue on xp 32 bit with my 4850 just couldn't get vsync to work but it worked via ati tray tools.

But not sure whether that was version of ccc or the operating system as I am now on win7 and cats 9.10 and ccc vsync works on the 4850.

Try the beta of ati tray tools see if enabling vsync on that solves the issue http://cid-a50350ea7a969f0c.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/attsetup.exe
worth a try if just to elimate vsync as it does sound like it's screen tearing

Well, Using ati tray tools didnt help with the flickering but while fiddling with it I did find out what was causing it.

It was my overclock on the memory. After researching a little before I bought the card I found that most people OC'ing this card run it at roughly 950/1050 so that is what I had it running at. It seems that even an overclock of 10Mhz on the RAM causes my screen to start flickering again. When I reset the RAM back to the default speed it shipped at (975Mhz) the flickering stops.

Not sure whether a bit of extra voltage might help the RAM run a little more stable or not but at least the flickering issue is solved. Running the core @ 950Mhz seems fine though with no flickering.

Thanks for the advice! :)
