Anyone got any waterblocks on their 4890 card?

Got a XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 and looking to replace the 8800gt in my system. My 8800gt is watercooled by just a core block and not a full cover one but from what i have read that is not a good idea with the top end 4890 cards so looking for a full cover water block.

Any pointers from anyone??

Thanks

temps wont be high. I am using a maze4 gpu block along with a Zalman RHS70 which only has maybe 1/2 the cooling capacity of the RHS90...except I have a slowspeed 92mm fan blowing over it.

Anyway, I get about 36-40C load at 1ghz and the VRMs stay below 60C

excellent cheer for that - using a DTek FuZion GPU Water Block at the moment with some small heatsinks on the memory. Might give the RHS90 and some new heatsinks a go and see what happens - Thanks Gurusa:cool::cool:n

full covers are a waste of money.

Use your GPU only block along with a Zalman RHS90 (google it)

Although true as with a seperate block you don't need to buy a new one when you buy a new card but full blocks do have their advantages.

1. Neat
2. Watercools the ram and power so is cooler than using ramsinks etc
3. If you cost up a block plus ramsinks plus zalman plus fan you are not far short of a full block anyway in cost.
4. No risk of ramsinks falling off
5. No feed for a fan to be blowing on the ramsinks/zalman

You can always sell your full waterblock to recoup a lot of your money when you change cards anyway.

the fuzion is an excellent block so it would be a shame not to use it. :) Especially as a new set of ramsinks and a Zalman RH90 really don't cost much.

And yes Greebo full blocks do have their advantages...they are just so expensive that I refuse to buy them :p My maze4 has been with me for ages and still performs like a champ, and is extremely low restriction which helps as I have a 120.3 + a 120.1 rad.

Also buying a full cover block for a 4890 this late in the game seems a bit silly unless you get it 2nd hand...as the RV800s will be out in no time.

yeah - cheapest full cover block is around £55 at the moment - Zalman rh90 plus ramsinks is about £12. Already have the block so looks like a winner winner chicken dinner!!:p

I won't be overclocking as it's way faster enough for my setup already!!

Will get some ordered i think and get a little write up done about it. If only there was any stock about!! damn

yeah if you already have a fuzion then I think just buying ramsinks + rhs90 is a better choice.

Here's a pic of my RHS70...not quite as purdy as a full cover block but doesn't look half bad either :)

lol. Well if you have a fan blowing across the rhs70 it's fine....actually I'll turn the fan off and see how it fares.

well I just ran atitool for a couple minutes with the rhs70 passively and it seemed to top off around 80C....my card is clocked at 940mhz. Still more than fine IMO.

Was thinking about ramsinks. Do they make much difference?

gddr5 gets surprisingly hot when clocked....but I ran without ramsinks for 1 day and top clocks were just the same (1200 benchable). I don't think they are necessary but I use them for peace of mind. At idle the chips don't even get above ambient it seems, but when benching or stressed heavily they get a bit roasty.

nice thanks - need to get it in my system a.s.a.p so think i will go with the RHS70 just now and some ram sinks and see when stock comes out for the RHS90. Can i ask what ram sinks they are as they seem very low profile which is what i am looking for??

Ta

They are akasa sinks...with free delivery ocuk is one of the cheapest places to get them... a shame they dont carry the RHS70 or RHS90 though.

and I do recommend getting some sort of airflow across the card as it will help immensely.

cheers - order the goods for now (ram sinks and RHS70) and have a few fans lying around. might just dump a fan in the bottom of my case for now blowing up towards the card. thanks again for all the help!
