I've not used my desktop in a while but I intend on going back to it in a few weeks time. Anyway, I've always been use to a dual or triple screen setup in the past, so when I saw this particular screen advertised for a fraction of the price....

I clicked BUYYYY.

Now its not due to be delivered for another month or two yet, which has given me time to think do I actually need it. Is it worth £400? Is it any good for games? At the moment all I can imagine is how utterly mental that would look on my desk, which quite appeals to me :p Is pretty much every game going to have black bars down the sides? Anyone have a screen of the same size and res, how do you find it?

A PPI of 81... errr, no. Blur City Central at that size lol! Depends what you're used to though really, but personally I couldn't stand for that.

Well my old setup from only a few years ago, was 3x Dell 24'' screens, each one at 1920x1200. I was running 2x gtx 970s back then, it was overkill for me as I never gamed that much, it was more for work so I sold one of the gfx cards. I'm currently still using the single gtx 970.

Well, the monitor you've chosen is probably going to struggle with a 970... game dependent of course. It's more than 12% more pixels than a 27" 1440p monitor.

Do you mean 1920x1080, or actually 1280? Regardless, both would have a PPI in the 90's, so the Acer is going to be less sharp, although not by a massive degree. I'd be more concerned about any attempts to run demanding games, although you could always just revert to a 1920x1080 format with black bars either side.

You'll find quite a few reviews and comments as to gaming at this res... from what I've seen, it suits some games better than others, but that 'fisheye' appearance at the edges of the screen is all but inevitable in most. Bothers some people more than others, again game dependent.

I'm a bit puzzled though, as you asked if it's worth £400 in your first post... that monitor is £800.

Sorry my mistake, the Dell's I had were 1920x1200. I later switched to a single 27'' screen but I've not used the desktop in months, been using a laptop.

The plan is, set up the desktop again as I'll have more space soon, and instead of going back to a double or triple screen setup, compromise with a mental looking 49'' curved screen, the one linked above. It was advertised recently for £400, not sure if it was a price error but I've got it on order, with delivery estimated for the end of July. I haven't been charged for it yet.

I'd be surprised if you got for half the RRP... but you never know. At £400 it's a steal of course. At full price, I'd advise against it.

You will have less vertical height, that's something to consider, and it won't be as sharp. For games, it has more disadvantages than advantages... only perhaps in flight sims, some driving games and perhaps strategy games would you see some positives... but it wouldn't be perfect. You probably won't know until you try it, and if you DO get it for £400 and you don't like it, you might even make some money selling it on.
