Hi 8Pack

Ive got the 4930K and the Asus Rampage Extreme Black edition in my OCUK basket along with a OCUK watercooled case and I was wondering, is this CPU good at overclocking? Could It reach 4.5ghz?

Any info appreciated

:)

I got 4.6Ghz at very low volts but no way did I pust it and go higher than "VERY" safe voltages. This CPU looks like it could do 4.9 or if very luckly 5.0ghz at 1.5v or a bit higher. Just no way I am going to try for a very long time.

Looks like 4.5Ghz is possible for some with 1.4volts but I get 4.6Ghz a much lower voltages.

Most will do 4.5 without too much trouble. Go straight for 1.3v and tap multi to 45.

Anything up to 1.4v is fine for 24/7. 1.45v for short bench runs on water. Nearer side of 1.5v is chip destroying on these. You'd have gates like the dartford tunnel if you ran that for too long.

Be carefull with the profiles on some boards, mine has a air and a water overclocking profile that sets the voltage to 1.5v and 1.55v. Not sure thats a good idea.

My chip does 4.75 125 strap and 125blk at 1.3 volts need to fine tune it though as I'm sure with working the blk I can bring down volts more. Also reaches 5.0 1.4 volts. :p There are a lot of people getting decent clocks on these and something Intel do called Intel Tuning Protection Plan which I recommend you take out for £17 it's worth the little extra :D
