So I've been playing around with my setup a bit more lately, and I'm slowly narrowing the overclock down to an efficient (power consumption wise) level I believe. But I've got a tiny question over a Bios setting for this overclock setup that is stumping me, as I "believe" it would make the overclock use less power over time, but I can't really seem to get it going. So just want others opinion and ideas over this.
Quick system background:
4930k, 64GB 1600Mhz Corsair DDR3 RAM, Asus Rive (Latest official BIOS), Corsair 650W PSU, Corsair H100i (Original) cooling the CPU, all C states, etc on.
So normally, I rock this setup at 4.3Ghz (43 multiplier at 100bclk), with an offset voltage of -0.02v and also on a Medium LLC setting. This nets a drop of 0.02v across the board, whilst also dropping the max Turbo voltage another -0.02 via vdroop and the LLC compensating, so at load, it is using 1.27/1.28v (from VID of 1.311v). So this is the most efficient I can get the setup going normally I feel, any less voltage and the system falls over in prime95 (I know - I know, it's not a really great indicator of normal use when OC'd).
Now, I've tried pushing it to hit 4.5Ghz (45 multiplier at 100bclk), and found that the chip can hit 4.5Ghz stable in prime95 at 1.32v/1.33v (a far cry from the auto voltage of 1.4v). But in order to hit this with all the power saving on, I've only been able to use LLC on High (to have virtually 0 vdroop) and using an offset voltage of +0.02v (or an offset of +0.04v but with LLC at Medium). Which isn't a lot by a long shot, and looking at the meters, doesn't really chew that much more power up.
But I have noticed in the Asus RIVE Bios settings under CPU Performance Settings, there's a setting that's named "Additional Turbo Voltage" when you go from Auto to Enabled. Which is supposedly voltage that is added on when using the Turbo states only. I've tried my damnedest but I don't seem to be able to get this adding the voltage onto the offset when under full load (Turbo). It's not like the newer versions on other motherboards where you enter the desired voltage (1.33v), it's just an "additional" voltage I believe as I can't raise it beyond 1.0v, and it can't go less than 0v). However, CPUz never shows this additional voltage during testing, which is why I'm a bit stumped. I've tried putting in 0.02v to 0.06v, no change in CPUz core voltage during any testing).
Has anyone used this setting (Additional Turbo Voltage) on the Asus RIVE, and been able to get it going? Or has it been busted since the beginning and why it's not been talked about all this time?
Any ideas, help, or info appreciated.
