4930k Temperatures - big differential!

This is during a Linpack run, up to 18 c difference - is that normal for these chips? Have reseated the cooler a few times but always similar to this .. (this is a lapped TRUE cooler if it makes any difference).

pretty normal on all cpu's imo

no idea why,maybe its the way it spreads the load? idk

Agreed with Wazza300 I get at least 10deg difference on idle across my cores.

Bigger difference there than I see on my 3930k but most likely normal.

Ok - looking at the temps on the water block when I tried that they were 10c apart. Will take the cooler off again and have a really good look this time and ensure it is symmetrical on the chip as the fit was a bit loose tbh with respect to central position ... holes are a bit bigger than on the X58 board so there is a bit of play and those 2 top temps look suspicious!

Try using Prime95 in case Linpack is doing something weird thread-wise. 18C seems like too much to me... perhaps your lapping isn't completely flat?

My bad ... there is slight movement of the mount as holes are a bit bigger so needed to be spot on with placement and screwing to get centred weight distribution ... now have a max of 11C difference which I think is ok and max temp has dropped in line with the lower ones.
