Hi, I recetly bought a 4CoreDual-VSTA for my brother with a P4 3.4 processor but I'm having a number of problems with it, first of all the retail heatsink wouldn't fit on the motherboard, for example, whenever I tried to fit the four legs into the holes, only 3 would enter and if I clicked on the one that didn't, the others would get lose. After battling with the thing for a while, I was able to fit it but one of the legs was on the hole but not all the way. I then tried to mount the board into the case, I put it into one of my spare cases with a 550W power supplier and when I plugged the graphics card and turn the computer on, the heatsink fan and the PSU would start working but nothing appeared on the monitor, except for a message saying that there wasn't any graphics card connected. I was p[retty worried about it and I checked the graphics card (in fact, I tried with two. A GeForce 440MX 8x Agp and a Ati 256Mb AGP) and in both cases the fans on the board weren't turning.

Can anybody please tell me what might be causing this and how can I fix it?

Thanks!!!

i set one of these up on sat but i used a pci e card and worked fine.. is there a jumper for agp?

Is there a jumper of the AGP card? If so, that's weird because I used to have a Asrock mobo before and I was able to use AGP without problems. If there are, can anyone tell me where can I locate it?

Thanks!

i built a system with one of these boards.

when i fitted the AGP card i never bothered with any jumpers but i had to remove a screw that was near the AGP slot(motherboard mounting screw) to let it have some "give". it worked fine after that.

The thing is that when I tested it I didn't put any screws, just mounted it inside the case and it still didn't work. Also, I used to have another asrock mobo (775Dual-880Pro) and I replaced it with an DS3P and when I fitted it the old mobo into another case, the same thing happens, I would insert the graphic card (worked under the mobo for almost a year) and turn on the computer and it would have the same problem as the new asrock mobo.

I sympathise that your board isn't working and I very much hope it's not damaged.

Firstly - I think you need to test it outside of the case as it's highly likely it's shorting something if it's just resting on the motherboard risers. Use the box and antistatic bag it came it and just hang the graphics card off the edge of the box.

I also think you need to make sure the retail heatsink and fan unit are properly fitted as it does sound like they may not be.

I don't know if you read the instructions, but they are specific about the fact that you it's not a good idea to have 3 of the clips in and one out. Two or Four is OK. It looks very simple, but it's actually one of these terribly cunning, quite sophisticated, mechanisms that once you realise how it works - you slap yourself on the forehead for not seeing it before. Do read the instructions!

Thanks for all the sugestions! but after a 4 days of trying to make this thing work I'm gonna take it back to the shop.

Thanks everybody!
