Hi,

I haven't been to the cinema in ages! And I've never been to a 4DX one before... I'm going next week to watch Top Gun Maverick and wondered if 4DX would be worth it ?

It depends entirely on the the film as to how effective 4DX is but I suspect that Top Gun will be perfect for it..

Depends on how much effort the converter to get everything works put in, some films you hardly move or feel vibrations others your all over the shop. It'll be better than a 2d showing for sure but Top Gun needs Imax this time around with how much they filmed with Imax cameras.

I've been to a 4DX once and found it more annoying than immersive tbh and have never bothered to go back. If you have the option of a decent IMAX near you, I'd recommend that instead.

as other mention it all depends on what it film in, i suspect top gun 2 will be filming in imax either in whole or in part as it got the tag on the posters, but the only film i can say will be imax, 3d plus anything else would be avatar 2.

I don’t know anyone who is a fan, even on the distributor/filmmaker side. You think Chris Nolan sits there and says “you know what’ll make this awesome, vibrating seats!1”

It was a stupid idea dreamt up by exhibitors to charge more to improve their margins.

Depends on the cinema. One I went to was pretty decent, seats actually proper throw you about. They can make it rain, snow, use fire and wind effects. Watched the last mission impossible there and definitely added more to the experience.

Seeing too gun 2 myself in 4dx and it's perfect for it.

The problem with 4DX imo is that I found the fans extremely loud when they turned on. This was very distracting as it was loud enough to overpower the film soundtrack. As others have said I would personally go to an IMAX screening as that will be more immersive.

Having seen it in 4DX it def is worth it.. really adds to the flying scenes.

so what affects do you get with 4dx with maverick? Trying to decide whether I should go see TG on the big IMAX screen or the 4DX screen.

Seats sync’d with the flying motion, vibration linked to engine noise, revving the motor bike linked to the things under the seat, water spray for the beach scene, gun powder smell for explosions, wind for all the flying bits and smoke in a key scene.

Not seen the IMAX version but have seen Screen X and wasn’t impressed.

Thanks for the replies - I went to see it on opening day in 4DX and it was amazing!

Going to see it again tomorrow with my Boys, my Dad, and my Sister :D

Only film I have seen in 4DX was The Winter Soldier and I had the dials turned up to max on my chair not really knowing what to expect and at the end of that first fight/action scene on the ship I felt every punch and kick it was exhausting and I felt beaten to a pulp.
Was better when I adjusted the settings but I did then have it turned right down. Thought about going to see Dr Strange 2 in 4DX but my kids didnt fancy it at all when I explained what 4DX was.

I saw The Meg in 4DX @ Leicester Square... it was amazing.

There was water dripping from the ceiling whenever the submarine shots were on, plus lots of movement during the shark attacks and the fans kicked in when there were some explosions... very immersive :D

Entirely depends on the film and the implementation though.

That was probably DBOX not 4DX - you cant control the movement intensity with 4DX as 4 seats are stuck together - 4DX is much better.

I was invited to try 4DX when it was first introduced up here and it really wasn't for me. I disliked being thrown around in my chair. I haven't used it since.

Also snows in the ground snowy scene and bright flashes during explosions.
