Been pondering this area for a while and need clarity. It's come to my understanding that you can't use DDNS with 4G as the IP is used for multiple users unlike for line Broadband & Fiber.

I get the picture you have to get a 4G sim with a fixed IP? A quick search shows such SIM cards are not cheap and one might be better off getting a BT line in.

Reason for 4G method is because of no existing phone line and a mile from nearest BT lines making connection expensive, and also its just to monitor two remote cameras every now and again.

I thought a 4G router configured for DDNS with two IP cameras connected would have been a simple way to go but apparantly not.

Anyone know of a work around for DDNS or any 4G Fixed IP deals or offer more clarity on the matter?

You can get M2M providers that won't give you public IP addresses, but will assign private IPs to the SIMs, and then you establish a VPN tunnel into that network from a firewall you manage.

Can you get a wireless link to the cameras?

I'd look into doing things the other way round. I.e. the cameras upload to a cloud-based solution which then lets you view it anywhere because you're accessing the server online, not at the physical location.

The cheapest way I can think of doing this would be to buy some cheap hosting (£5 a month) and upload to that.

If you want something a little more streamlined Google Nest cam is £80 a year for online cloud storage and access.

However, with a 4G connection, you'd need to become familiar with the data requirements for streaming the video continuously to a cloud-based storage.

Wifi is not an option due to a mountain in between.

By using a cloud service, Images or screen shots are uploaded at a regular intervals to view remotely? Is that how that works?

Customer basically wants to load up app on phone for example and view remote location. The only time cameras would need to be uploading is when the user is remote viewing.

AFAIK you cant use ddns on a sim as the public IP is NAT 'ed onthe provider end - I think it MAY work on 3g with three but not sure how accurate that info is

You will need a fixed IP or m2m sim I think

Another way of viewing reliably is by using cameras that have P2P functionality I know there are some hikvision and foscam cameras out there at the mo that can do it - probably others too
Currently using ezvizlife.com with hikvision - no port forwarding needed

This would be my suggestion. EZVizLife with a HikVision NVR makes things very very simple

Thanks for the above. Will be using Hikvision kit and EZVizLife or Hik-Connect will do the job perfectly. With regards to the connection, BT are requesting a business line must be installed at £45 a month because the line is not being installed in a home/house. Not sure but must check with the client but I don't think that's for fiber either.

If EZVizLife or Hik-Connect avoids the need for port forwarding and a static IP, I will need to price a data sim again cause £45 a month with BT is a joke.
