Just seen the gadget show christmas special. They showed 4G dongles, phones and tablets.

Just using a 4G dongle and laptop they got 90meg speeds on speedtest.net... thats close to south korean speeds how is this possible? and this also destroys current broadbad speeds even fibre optic.

4G is coming 2013 do you guys think it will really be this good?

If you read a couple American review sites on phone and tablet speeds, they get around 15-20mbps down in cities. Once there are a million people on the network, the speeds will be a lot lower.

American 4G isn't 4G as per the definition i.e. LTE. It's fast 3G that the marketing men rechristened.

The closest analogy I can give is if UK networks had classed EDGE as 3G, when in fact it was turbocharged GPRS.

All I've ever had is 2 mbps, on both 3G and broadband.

One of the most expensive couuntries to live in, and also IMO the worst internet out of all the developed countries.

Great Britain should be remaned to 'Slow and not really unlimited internet Britain'

Cant wait for this i get 6-7mbps on 3g over 3mobile lol. I can even play games online fine. The good thing about 3 is there all you can eat data ive hit 200gb plus some months and they have never charged me more.

Lol That was with 3 bars out of 5 signal just now tethering through usb from my iphone not bad really.:D

90 meg? Wish I watched this episode.

Current 4G (LTE Rel-8) theoretical downlink speeds peak 100Mbps, but this 'should' reduce to around 10-15Mbps once live due to the backhaul coping with demand, so to achieve the 90 Mbps - I didn't watch the show but I'm guessing they were in a test environment?

4G is estimated to have a latency of ~20ms (compared to 3G's ~100ms) - mobile online gaming!

Can only hope mobile carriers sort their data plan pricing out before 4G goes live.

Ok, on feb first I'm ditching T mobile. I dont care about the flext 40 or discount anymore, I never use that.

I have 2 mbps and only 10 Gb per month which gets used up within 2 weeks.

UNLESS they can offer me more data limit, or somehow convince me that their internet will one day match 3s.

T-mobiles internet sucks bad 2mbps sounds about right for them. 3 is by far the best for speed and the only network with true unlimited internet not this fair usage crap ya see. They dont seem to cap your speed aswell i have steam on dowloading games all the time torrents the lot.:p

Thread title is pretty much my thoughts when I heard the quoted speeds on the gadget show.

Virgin (down the phone line, can't get cable in my area) -

It's crazy to think that soon we can have speeds ~20x that in the cloud.

Nah i keep ringing sky and complaining weekly. Heck they may bring the exchange to me if i waste enough of some indians time on the phone

Depends what the line stats are. That's entirely different discussion you'd be better having in the correct sub-forum.

Suffice to say when my speeds dropped a couple of months ago I got no joy with the script readers on the phone, or via email (which used to go straight to Tier 2 in the UK). They kept blaming my building wiring and saying unless it dropped below 7Mb they wouldn't look into it. I supplied the line stats which indicated it should be 19-20Mb sync and they couldn't give any answer other than "have you tried the test socket".

One call to customer service to with a request to quit and someone kicked off DLM on the line (which was what I asked for originally) within an hour, and it was back to 19Mb within a couple of days...

If that hadn't worked I was planning on walking a couple of hundred yards to the call centre office building and banging on the door.

Both my sky broadband and t mobile are ****.

I dont pay for the sky though, but its no better than my T mob, and the silly bint father of mine switches the router off every night.

I've been relying on T Mobile with 10 gb per month for too long, bye bye T mobile, your flext 40 looks very nice, but I never use it! All I want is darn internet, and The One Plan is where thats at.

That's bone-headed. It'll likely flag errors on the ADSL line, and will never complete DLM leading to reduced speeds.

Give him a slap. If it's a bid to reduce electricity usage it'll save him about 10p a year!
