I work offshore in Qatar, and there are mobile signal masts in some oil rigs, so I'm able to use my 4g data on my phone from time to time. I'm thinking about buying something to use as a hotspot as when indoors the signal deteriorates badly.

I figure my options are get a second cheap phone running Android, or a purpose built mobile hotspot that uses sim cards. I've decided to go with the latter as figure this will likely pick up any signal better than a cheap phone.

Just purchased the TP Link TL MR6400, but wondering how much increase of signal I will see. I contemplated the Huawei E5576, but figured the removable antennae gave the TP link the edge for signal catching ability.

Can anyone confirm my thoughts are right, and if not, maybe point me in a better direction? If the Huawei would do just as well, I'll send the TP Link back and save £25.

its impossible for anyone to give you a definitive answer on this one im afraid.
The only way to tell if one devices performs better than the other is to try it.

Unfortunately I didn't have much luck with these being any better than my phone signal. I lost internet during the peak of COVID due to saturation of my local Virgin link and used this in a place where I had pretty poor phone signal. I'd actually say it was worth than my mobile phone itself.
