Looking at todays deal, I am thinking of getting the 8gb xms3 on offer. I was looking to replace my current 2x2gb xms3 with the 2x4gb xms3, but thinking about it, how well would 12gb run? 2x4gb + 2x2gb? I guess I would loose the "dual channel", but what else? Would the 8gb run better by itself, rather then 12gb?

When running 2x2GB and 2x4GB you should actually preserve dual channel mode- just follow your motherboard manual to ensure you install them in the correct slots.

The only downside is that you will be putting more strain on the memory controller when using four RAM modules, so you may need to redo any overclock and you may need to run the memory at a frequency lower than 1600MHz to get it stable.

Due to running 190 x 20 right now, I am running my RAM at 1520Mhz right now. 200x19 didnt seem to run very well... or I was too lazy/busy to try lol! Yea I get what you mean about the Dual Channel.

Humm...do I...do I?

Each channel should be made up of a 4GB and 2GB module.

Don't have 8GB in one channel and 4GB in the other.
