Any experience ?

I've heard that even with 4, windows '32 bit' apps only address 2 Gb. There are /3GB and /PAE switches to include in the boot.ini file yet still the apps may only see 2Gb.

Am I forced to go the Vista route ??

Regards

If you decide on Vista, make sure that it is Vista 64bit, not 32bit. If you get Vista 32 bit, you'll have the same problem as with XP32 bit.

my pc could see 2.75gig of ram, cpu-z saw 4gig, 3dmark06 2.8 gig... to be honest, most programs saw 2.7-2.8gig.

I have now moved on to XP 64bit and am enjoying 4gig goodness :D

I'm sure they quote Vista 32 as accepting up to 4GB ram !?

You can install 4gb of system memory but, you cannot fully utilize it all with ANY 32 bit OS. Just as with XP, the memory address allocation space is given to other devices before the installed system memory is allocated space. You cannot fully utilize 4gb of RAM with a 32 bit OS, Vista included. You need a 64 bit OS to fully utilize 4gb+ of installed system memory.
