Secs of my build are;

AMD Llano A8-3850 2.90GHZ (SOCKET FM1) APU PROCESSOR.
MSI AF75MA-G55 AMD HUDSON D3 (SOCKET FM1) DDR3 LLANO MICRO-ATX MOTHERBOARD
CORSAIR XMS3 4B (2X2) DDR3-PC3-12800C9 1600MHZ DUAL CHANNEL KIT.

Why is it displaying only 1.49gb usable is this down to the fact that the intergrated graphics is draining the ram? i really really don't want to have to take apart the pc lol >_<

Thanks!

0.5GB for the integrated graphics would make sense, but 2.5GB is unlikely.

Is the machine actually recognising both sticks of memory? Try reseating the memory, and if that doesn't help try each stick on its own and report your findings.

Also, are you using a 32bit or a 64bit operating system?

If your using a 32Bit operating system then only 2GB is use-able sadly. Ahh well Win 8 will be the last 32Bit Win OS

That really depends on the hardware, mainly the video card and the amount of memory it needs to map. Most PCs (without very exotic video cards) can easily have 3.25GB+ available. I've got machines with very basic graphics that have 3.99GB available.

Swapping memory out is hardly time consuming, 15 minutes at the most.

Why worry about the next solution when you haven't checked the most likely cause?

It's not I don't want to do it. The only reason because the computer is detecting 4GB ram so it has got to be in properly otherwise it wouldn't detect it i also didn't get any post beeps indicating that the RAM was faulty or not in properly?.. ;/

It will take about 60 seconds to take the side of, remove the ram and re-seat it

Try this first

If no luck, then maybe a BIOS update will sort the issue for you

I take it this is the board you have, the one you listed doesn't seem to exist

-edit, I've not used a CPU with integrated graphics before, does the BIOS let you pick how much ram the GPU uses?

Im not sure. I'll go re-seat the RAM now and update you with my findings :P!

^Actually yeah, what does it say in Task Manager under the performance tab

'Physical Memory' 'Total'

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00GB
Total Physical Memory 1.49GB
Available Physical Memory 1.01GB
Total Virtual Memory 2.98GB
Available Virtual Memory 2.39GB
Page file space 1.49GB

I have the same RAM as you, have you tried running it with the XMP profile enabled? Go in to the BIOS to enable the XMP profile.

To get in to the BIOS, as your PC is starting up (where it lists all of your drives e.g.), start tapping the delete key (might be F12 for you). XMP is a profile for the memory to run on.
