I'm running 64bit Vista, dropped 4gb of Corsair PC6400 (2x2gb) in today to replace my old 2gb.

On boot it only shows as 3327mb, and indeed in Windows it only shows the same. CPU-Z reports 4096 however.

I'm pretty sure it should be reporting 4096 in Vista, any ideas why this might be?

Cheers. I was thinking it could well be the BIOS as its a pretty old board but i wanted to check I wasn't missing something obvious before going down that road. :)

Edit : This should be fun as the MSI Live update doesnt want to work under Vista and I don't have a floppy drive to do it the old fashioned way. Only thing I can think of is installing XP just so that I can update the BIOS. Bugger.

OK, so I did some reading around and found that you can flash the BIOS from a boot cd.

I've managed to download a bootcd ISO and put both the BIOS file and flash utility on there, and burned to cd. Now I've not used DOS a great deal and only know enough to get around and this is driving me mad.

When you boot with the cd the startup files are seen as drive A: and
the bios files are seen as drive R:

I run the flash utilty from R: it pauses for about 10 seconds then gives me a CDR101 error. IIRC this means it can't find the cd or something similar.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong ? I know it would be easier to just fork out £2 for a floppy drive but I've got a bee in my bonnet over this and am determined to fdo it. Any help very very welcome :)

Edit :
NM done it :)

Is it all displayed in BIOS and Vista now? If not then look for a memory remapping option in the BIOS?

Some BIOS don't support the full 4GB some of the machines at work don't support the full 4GB and some do. I guess it depends on the motherboard/BIOS.

Nothing you can do about it I'm afraid.
