Current Set Up:

M'BOARD: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard)

RAM: 1 x OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC with LIFETIME WARRANTY

PROCESSOR: 1 x Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13ghz) Socket 775 FSB1066 2MB Cache

Decided it's time to get some new RAM. Budget is about £80 to £100. Thing is I want to make sure I notice the performance increase. Will it be worth doing? If so, please recommend compatible RAM. Thanks

Will my motherboard allow me to use all 4GB?

I ask as I have just read this:

"If you are running 64-bit Windows, you may have to live with it. Depending on your motherboard's chipset, your system may support memory remapping. If so, you will be able to use all 4GB of RAM."

I've decided I want this:

Corsair CM2X4096-6400C5DHX

Does anyone know where I can find it

If it's not on OCUK, we're not allowed to tell you.

Do you mean something like this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB)

If you only want PC2 6400, how about this stuff?

Edit: You probably want PC2 8500 RAM, not PC 6400. And no need to post 3 times about the same thing. You could just edit the post you've already got.

That motherboard and CPU will support 4GB or more but you need to be running a 64 bit version of Windows, such as XP x64 or Vista x64. If you're running a 32 bit version not all the RAM will be useable and it'll show up as around 3GB depending on what you've got in your system.

Example of PC2 8500 here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-074-GL

OK - I think some explanation is needed. Your CPU is rated for a 1066 MHz speed. PC2 6400 runs at 800 MHz. It will work but there's may be a marginal performance drop from running the RAM at a lower speed.

PC2 8500 is rated at 1066MHz, the same as your CPU. It's more expensive but marginally faster. In real terms we're talking an absolutely tiny difference for most tasks running the memory at stock speeds. You may be able to overclock the CPU more with better / faster RAM. All the PC2 8500 on OCUK is listed here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=8&subid=817

lol what have you been smoking, to run his cpu in sync with memory he only needs pc2 4200 spec memory that equates to 266 mhz x4 (1066mhz) of his cpu

if he uses pc2 6400 memory, he will not be running at lower speeds or "may be getting a marginal performance drop"

ofcourse if you get higher rated memory you can run it out of sync from your cpu, were not even bringing overclocking into the equation yet

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GB24GB6400C5DC

could go with either of these, your board can do 8gb, so you can go for 8gb of the 1st but its probably a bit too overkill and im not too sure how your board will cope with 8gb

it still would be good to unlock some horsepower by overclocking your cpu, even to 3Ghz
(8 x 375) which even the cheapest kits should easily do (your cpu should do it easily i hope :p)

maybe someone who has used your board can comment

I used to overclock on my old DS4.

I had to rebuild my system though and have been reluctant to overclock it because I built it myself. It's never crashed, never had a blue screen but I really was guessing a bit when I put it all together. I'm amazed at how stable it is actually but still reluctant to overclock.

you can, but if your not overclocking then theres no point :p

another thing though, i remember some memory being fussy with the gigabyte ds3/4/6 series of boards not sure about yours tbh
