XP Pro 64-bit, Vista or Win2K3 Server all support direct addressing of >2Gb by the Kernel. That means you can load 4Gb of data into memory before you need to page out to hard disk. Any job requiring big data files is speeded up radically (3D Modelling, CAD, AI Learning systems, Program compilation).
The old rule of thumb for a Windows server was 256Mb RAM for each user, now they are saying 512MB and doubtless they'll soon recommend 1Gb of RAM per user. It's so cheap anyway (relatively) that you might as well do it.
Of course, it could just be an ePenis thing too. Nothing wrong with that.
