4ghz...finally!!!

Well it passed SuperPI 1m but just failed P95 so the signs are there. This is with 1.5vcore everythjing else on auto with a 680i so I got a little room to play with.

Priming at 1.55 now, 1 hour and counting.

Really weird how nervous and exciting(aswell as sad I guess) running orthos can be :D

Yeah as I am finding! Managed SP32mb now. Orthos blend failed just after the hour mark. Gonna try another orthos run on 1.565v - wish me luck :D

Anyone with a 680i had different results with using different memory slots? Thing is while priming on the blue slots I was getting resets instead of failures. Now its priming away in the black slots (1.5hours so far :D) with the exact same settings. Brings back memories of my old DFI boards with the yellow and orange slots, wonder if the 680i works the same?

Well it still won't stabilise with 1.57, managed 4 hours so its getting there. Up to 1.6v now but heat is starting to creep in - 59c load :(. We'll see how it goes.

BTW anyone wanting to start a donation thread for a replacement conroe for me after this one dies please feel free to do so :D

Personally I don't think any Orthos run proves TOTAL stability as a 12hr run could fail at 12hrs 1 min. However an 8hr or 12hr run is usually what is expected as a minimum before any serious overclocker declares his/her overclock stable.

If you regard your overclock stable then good luck to ya, I don't have a problem with that and sure, posting a 4ghz overclock does come with it a large amount of bragging rights, but if you can also post with it a decent orthos run then there can be little doubt of a 'successfull' overclock. Orthos/P95 isn't the be all and end all as it only gives an indication of stability, but for now it is the most accepted method of stability testing imo.

Little update before I turn in for the night.

6 hours to go but I'll leave it running overnight and see if it passes, should be 12hrs by then....hopefully

Room temp 20c

Voltages:
vcore 1.65set (1.6 actual)
FSB 1.5
Memory 2.1
Everything else set to auto.

I've had a setup pass orthos and crash after a couple of hours gaming. Orthos is just an indication of stability but it is the BEST indication around atm.

Gonna do some gaming runs today to check.
