Which is the best to get these days: 4gig or 6gig?

Depends on the motherboard, if it's dual channel (I assume you're talking DDR3) you can choose from 4gb or 8gb, if it's tri channel you can choose from 6gb or 12gb.

Choose an Intel or AMD CPU, then a board, then worry about the ram. If you ask me it doesn't make a difference really for normal users whether you have 4gb or 6gb.

6gb will obviously be better but depends on the platform and whether its dual or triple channel

6GB still runs dual channel though!
