So, The $64,000 question. Do i really need more than 60Hz to play games on a 4K screen ?

I'm not a hardcore gamer but i would like the opportunity for some FPS and Asetto Corse action once in while.

Will i experience flicker on 4K at 60Hz or should i go for a lower res higher frequency display?

I've really fancy an LG 27UK650-W or possibly the LG 27UK850-W

Right now there is nothing on the market that can deliver consistent 60fps at 4k on v.high/ultra settings.

So it comes down to your screen size and where you are seated. It also depends on what you are playing and what you prioritize.

If you predominantly play competitive shooters then it is desirable to have very high frame rates. Most competitive gamers do not put emphasis on graphical bells and whistles as they see it as additional clutter in the game.

If you are playing cinematic adventure games then perhaps having fps in the 100s is not as preferential as having the game look prettier and more immersive.

If you are playing on anything under 30" then getting a 4k screen seems a waste to me. I'd be surprised if you can pick the pixels out from 1440p over a 4k monitor at anything below 30".

As above you'd want at least a 32" to take advantage of 4k any less you may as well get a 1440p display as there isn't a massive amount of difference on what you would be looking at.

If you play any games with a mouse then 100hz+ is a must in my opinion. Unless as above you have a good GPU and adequately sized display to take full advantage of 4k.

for 27" it is better to get the QHD G-sync with 144Hz, I suggest the Acer XB271HU, you get both great resolution and great refresh rate.

A 34" Gsync UW is the perfect balance between the two tbh, along with the extra screen size. I've had all 3 models and settled on the Asus UW.

edit - I don't know what I'm on about, I typed the above without even reading the guys post!! lol. Sorry.

Agree with the recommendations above, i.e. 4k for 30"+. My son and I play Destiny 2 on PCs next to each other. He's using a 25" @1440p and I'm on (cinema) 4k @2160p, both at 60Hz. Is my screen more detailed? Sure, but not to a degree that would make the average user cringe or even notice much. Even at 27" @1440p I doubt you'd visually see much difference outside of being pedantic :)

1440p 144Hz over 4K60 EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

The increase in detail going to 4K is so minimal when playing games (because you're not really concentrating on the details), however the added responsiveness and fluidity of higher refresh rate is super noticeable
