Hello people!

I'm thinking of switching from 4k 60hz to 1440p 165hz/170hz, currently I'm using a BenQ EW3270U 60Hz 10bit, I did buy this monitor back in March because I was watching movies and play PS4 games on it too, I bought a tv for the last two, so the monitor now would be only for gaming.

I played mostly COD Warzone this year so I thought having a high refresh rate monitor would be better, I read that the LG 27GL850 is one of the best, but is sold out everywhere. I also came across the Asus VG27AQL1A and Acer Predator XB273UGS. Looks like the Asus has some more features 170hz vs 165hz and 10bit vs 8bit and it only costs £20 more.

I also read about the LG 27GN950 4K 144hz and I was wondering if is worth spending the extra money for this and playing single titles in 4k 60hz and multiplayer competitive at 1440p 144hz.

What do you guys think? What's your thought on these models? Is there any other I should consider?

I did some testing recently and the picture looked extrememly crisp on my ancient 2160p 28" 60Hz screen but lack of high refresh and no VRR was painful compared to old 1440p 144Hz screen. Had that 27GN950 been in stock anywhere would have probably bought it :p Also considered some of the ultrawides before eventually opting for the OLED as it does 2160p 120Hz VRR. Performance in WZ is pretty good at 2160p even better if I run at wide 21:9 resolution.

I would definitely recommend a high refresh panel even it is 1440p though!

I don't think going ultrawide would be any good for FPS games tbh, I want a flat panel 27'. The 32 I'm using now feels too big if playing m/k on fps, with controller I guess you can move out a bit.

I had 4K monitors since 2015! Never had a 1440P, but also they were all 60hz. I feel like 60hz is a waste for a 3080 in games like Warzone.

As you have a 3080 then go 4k for the future.

As for models to consider

I would love to futureproof myself with a 4k high refresh rate monitor, however nor the 3080 or 3090 could handle 4k generating enough frames to top over 100fps for now I think.

It makes sense with some of these 'gpu killer' latest games as well, still hard to run at 4K high fps and this will only get worse.

I think the same, I don't see 4k 144hz being reachable by any current gpus at the moment. The only advantage of having a monitor that is 4k 144hz is that I could play 4k @60hz for single player games and switch to 1440p 144hz for multiplayer games... however there isn't much choice at the moment, been looking at the LG 27GN950 for months now, and it is not available anywhere

If you havent tried some high refresh screens (esp with VRR) on a shooter then the smoothness may well blow you away :p

And of course the 3080 is particularly good for getting high frames at 1440p, there's a thread in the GPU section of forums with a couple of recording of how WZ runs at 1440p

What do you guys think of these 2, which one would you choose?

Asus VG27AQL1A £518 (last one available on OcUk is goooone damn)
Acer PREDATOR XB273UGS £499 (10+ available)

Well I'm using a 120hz 4k VRR panel and most games are over 100fps . I'd prefer 4k @ 100fps than I would 1440p @144hz+. DLSS 2 is there for games that support it.

I think the VRR across the range makes it as important as high hz.

4k 120hz+ VRR (poor) HDR monitors are still expensive too, so expensive you'd have to take an OLED for not a lot more.

What monitor are you using?

Acer XV273K - cant actually see them on their site anymore. Anyway it was £750 discounted from £950. Bought before CX48 came out otherwise I'd have probably plumped for that.

I ended up buying an LG 27GN850 for £379, enjoying it so far, the higher refresh rate is definitely noticeable, 1440p 144hz is much better than 4k 60hz for FPS!
