The price of 4K displays seems to be falling fast -

DIAMOND BAR, Calif. – June 24, 2013 – Targeting smart, savvy Ultra High-Definition television (Ultra HDTV) and PC monitor buyers ready to experience 4K digital entertainment, SEIKI Digital, Inc. (www.SEIKI.com) introduces its 39-inch LED 4K Ultra HDTV and adds to its 4K lineup. The new model (SE39UY04) features a panel resolution of 3,840-by-2,160, and an input refresh rate of 120Hz on a 1080p signal and 30Hz on a 4K signal. Shipping at the end of June, the SEIKI 39-inch 4K Ultra HDTV will be priced at MSRP of $699. ...

This one only does 30Hz but it can't be too long before there are computer monitors at lower prices.

v true, come hither soon.

And soom plenty of competitors will adopt it and improve on it. If so, content will follow.

They are cheap because its Max 30Hz on 4k.

if they added the ability to use a Display port then it would be 60hz and a few hundred more expensive.

I will wait for those

Why do they bother apart from their intension just to showcase future technology surely, 30 hz is not watchable. A perfected one is worth for multiples of that price.

I wonder how much 2560x1440 was a few yrs ago...

The Dell U2711 was the first mainstream 2560x1440 monitor. It retailed at around £900 initially. On the subject of 4K I am quite confident that there will be an alternative in the near future that sits some way between the current or proposed solutions. Something that comes a bit closer to the Seiki screen in terms of cost but will offer performance more similarly to IGZO models like the ASUS PQ321 (60Hz @ 4K for example). Paying for the graphics grunt to drive 4K in games is another matter, even when the resolution is more widely supported.

and price tag 2000 pounds +

I would be fine with that, considering the only other large (e.g. ~40inch) 4K 60hz anels are currently 10K+, under 2-3k and I'm in!

though the Asus 39 inch is not using the expensive Sharp Igzoo panel of the 31.5inch, it is probably using the same or very similar panel as this Seiki TV, so even adding a few hundred for a displayport driver and another few hundred for the Asus badge, there is no particular reason it could be under 2K

the only 60hz 4K projector is currently 6 figures :D

Am I the only one who doesn't see the point in 4K (currently). You really cannot notice the different on a TV of 42 inches or less and even at 50 inches, it doesn't look that much better.

I watched 4K content on a 4K projector on a 100 inch screen at IFA 2013 and honestly, for £7000 over our 1080p Epson TW3200 projector, it just wasn't worth it!

This should make an excellent office work monitor. The only problem is that you have to import it from the US (not an issue in itself) which could spell problems if it breaks down and you have to send it back.

importing it carries a 14% duty and 20% VAT, taking it's current rainforest price to about £450, not bad at all.

If only they had a UK supplier/contact for returns I'd be all over it.

under 300quid (ex shipping/tax etc)

Interesting, think you'll find the price delivered is(at the lowest) around £530-590 :)

I agree with regard to TVs but computer monitors are often about size/resolution.

If only they had a UK supplier/contact for returns I'd be all over it.

Surely it can only be a matter of time before there is a UK distributer? I am not currently in the market for a monitor but if my 30" import fails a cheap 4K will probably be the next stop(hopefully with HDMI 2).

EDIT: Seiki have confirmed on their Facebook page that their products will be coming to the UK -
