4K/Gsync GPU questions

Care to do some gpuz memory logs on dual cards at native 4k for me? As I was under the impression the internal scaling added more vram usage rather then reduced it :)

Hi Guys, i'm new to both Gsync and 4K so have a couple questions.

Background:
My laptop died so I have no machine to game on currently :(. So i'm looking at buying the "Ultima Dedsec" (Link at the bottom) with a SLI config for 2x 780Ti.

I'm going to run one 4K Gsync screen then a second 1080p. (Something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-065-AC&groupid=17&catid=1895)

All gaming will be done on the 4K screen.

I'd like to run all current games at max and not have to upgrade for a couple of years.

Questions:
My understanding is that its more about VRAM than processing power, under that assumption will the 2 780Ti 3072mb be enough?

Is there a better set of cards to go for?

Is there anything I should be aware about before purchasing?

Thanks in Advance.

3gb cards are absolutely fine.

Plenty more examples going around youtube too. Do not waste your money on 6gb cards lol.

@Ethan62

I ordered the XB280HK and I am with a single GTX780 3GB albeit heavily overclocked (1293).
Personally I wait until the monitor arrives to assess the situation of the GPU.
GTX780 6GB or a single Titan Black (for the time) might be enough for me. But as I said. I will assess it when the monitor arrives.

After all I only play TESO and plan to do so for quite some time, before I am interested on another game.

My findings with TESO is that with 4K resolution downsampling with everything maxed out, it uses 2.6GB VRAM. Up by 1.5GB compared to 1080p. Avg fps at around 39-60 even during heavy big fighting at Cyrodiil with hundreds of people per side.

The Gsync will compensate with the low fps (that is it's purpose after all) so I hope that until the next gen comes out (Feb-March) I will be OK. GPU usage is around 95% constant, and fan speed 100% (ouch due to the room becomes like an over mid summer)

At 1080p is goes between 50 to 110 fps, 1.1GB and GPU barely working at 55% speed even at the times it drops to 50 fps.

Imho Gsync is there to compensate for low FPS, or else what's the point to buy a Gsync monitor? OK at 4k a single 780 might not be enough, but is subject to what games you play, and if willing to live with it few months until the next gen of cards.

@Panos

Thanks, always interesting to have real feedback.

I'm going for an SLI config which hopefully will last me a while (atleast until 4K becomes more mainstream/cheaper). As for GSync i was hoping that it would make FPS drops less noticeable but time will tell.

Won't be playing at 4K for another couple months anyway

I can assure you 4gb is not enough never mind 3gb. Buying 3gb cards will leave you with the feeling that you have just wasted your money once you try and max the settings.

I get the distinct impression he's not done much research into 4k and some people you just cannot convince :)
