4K HDR monitor suggestions

Hi guys, I have recently found I much prefer playing my PS4 (pro) on a monitor rather than a big telly. Don’t know why exactly, I just do.

Therefore, I am looking for a monitor for this reason. Must be 4K and HDR, around the 27-28inch range and ideally between £300-£400. Also must have 2 HDMI inputs. Inbuilt speakers would be handy too.

Will I be severely compromising PQ at that price range or is there is a monitor out there that suits my every need? TIA.

Sorry to piggyback on this thread but I’m in a similar position to OP but with a larger budget. From my initial research the LG 32UD99 seems to tick a few boxes but I worry that cos it’s freesync I’m severely kneecapping my future PC gaming prospects (historically I’ve always been Team green).

Valued opinions welcome. Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure there aren't any 4K HDR G-Sync monitors around, other than the obscenely expensive Acer/Asus 144Hz ones.

Thing is, you don't really have to use Freesync, it's just a bonus feature to have that you aren't paying extra for. The main issue is that HDR on monitors is very lacklustre and anything that isn't FALD you might as well forget about HDR (which few monitors have). Imo HDR is still a bit early atm, at least for monitors (but even on TVs it's not all rosy). As for that LG, imo it's horribly overpriced once you realise its HDR is not real. It's a decent monitor but in no way is it worth the almost double price difference compared to, e.g. a BenQ EW3270U.

OK, I've had this LG 27UK600 for a week now and used it with PS4 Pro gaming, watching netflix, youtube and browsing on it.

This is the cheapest of the three monitors from the series but it's only stand and input differences between the three. The panel is exactly the same on all three. I believe the top model is also the only one to have inbuilt speakers.

Easy to set up and the little joystick control is a joy to use after suffering from monitors using Asus' multiple hidden buttons. Makes dashing around the settings a breeze. The power cable is not your usual kettle lead affair, but a kettle lead into a power brick, which then plugs in like a DC adaptor.

After switching on, I looked for IPS glow and dead pixels. No dead pixels at all. The glow was there but not in great amounts and if you are not watching movies or gaming in the dark, I cant see it being an issue. It's certainly got less BLB than I've seen on much more expensive monitors.

Straight into the PS4 pro, and everything was super sharp and bright. There are a number of picture options. I opted for custom game. Here are all the options.

When you start a HDR source. it auto detects and then you get a few HDR options.

The picture is quite simply, superb for a monitor of this price. Absolute tack sharp and although the brightness is only around 300-400 nits, it's more than enough when you're only 2 feet away. Response time is OK at 5ms. There are options to for faster response times and FPS gaming modes that have faster response and black stabilisation to help pick out the campers that like to linger in the dark. I think it does HDR very well indeed. Some of the scenes in SOTTR look stunning, as does GT Sport.

Moving to video, again, excellent. Great motion, no trailing that I can see, again, bright colours, pin sharp and glorious colour reproduction. The colours on this thing really are magnificent. The whole picture overall is much better than my 2016 Samsung 4K TV, better by a country mile. I sat back and watched an episode of Planet Earth II via PS$ netflix and it was truly stunning. I hope Blue Planet II comes out on netflix.

Overall, I think it's a great monitor, ideally suited for console gamers. I'd imagine PC gamers would not be impressed by the max 60hz, but I cant see this gen of console or even the next one push true 4K at over 60fps, so it's pretty future proof. For the price I got it at (£360), it's a complete steal and I am a very happy bunny indeed.

I've attached some photos. They are only iPhone 8+ pics, so it will never get close to showing the true beauty of the picture. If you want to know anything else or any more pics, just ask :)

Lets say you were using the ps4 and wanted to use the pc. When you put the ps4 on rest mode or off, does the monitor switch to the PC input automatically?

Mine requires a manual change using the joystick to switch between hdmi 1 and 2.

Thanks
