Hi,

How are people playing back these files? No luck straight from windows at all.

I have created a plex media server on pc and tried that. Youtube HDR sample downloads play flawlessly and trigger HDR when using my Samsung KS8000 Plex app, however as soon as a higher bitrate file is used its a stuttering mess and unwatchable. PC is in sig and is hardwired on the network with a Virgin superhub 3.0.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks,
Sean

I play mine direct from a from a usb hard disk plugged into the tv. LG Oled set

Will give that a go, assume it will need to be NTFS due to file size? Also USB 3.0 is needed right?
Just tried that sample of usb stick that worked. Having to split a 50gb file as usb stick is only 32gb haha. Hope it works! What HDD are you using if you do not mind?

Thanks

Yeah just tried it of a USB 3 HDD and it plays perfect with HDR. When using the plex app via ethernet to play from the PCs internal HDD it unplayable due to stutter! I thought ethernet was much faster than a HDD?? Its not a big deal, just would be nice to be able to play without having to transfer to portable hdd then plug back into TV.

Gigabit is a bottleneck even on mechanical drives and has been for quite some time.

Your plex is probably not using direct play which means it falls back to transcoding. Direct play capability is a client issue. You would need a client that can direct play.

I had the same problem with plex it was driving me nuts. i spent a good few hours on there forums, a ton of people compleining about lack of 4k hdr playback. but im glad i did look through there forums, i own a 2016 lg tv, there is another very similar app to plex, its called x-play, it plays 4k ultra hd -hdr content perfectly even dolby vision. you have to pay for it, but its one small payment once.
