4K HTPC build

I know what HTPC stands for, but with a post count of 5 and 4K video content somewhat sparse at the moment I thought it best to ask for clarification. Y'know, being helpful and all that, since you're only "pretty sure" yourself.

Can't some motherboard support 4k with onboard? It'd only be 30hz as its through HDMI, but that's fine for films isn't it? Saving you a nice chuck without a GFX card?

Some (AM1 / Z97 and others) will support HDMI 1.4a but there are no (as far as I am aware) motherboards with HDMI 2.0.

HDMI 2.0 will support full 4k streaming where 1.4a will only support it @ 30hz

Don't you need HDMI 2.0 for a 4k telly? The upcoming Skylake boards are supposed to have HDMI 2.0 built in.

I was only saying because I built a "HTPC" but wanted to stream games from my main PC as well therefore I bought a GPU with HDMI 2.0.

Anyway:

You could probably get away with 4GB of RAM, but I'm not sure I'd want to...
