4k Medium ish VS 1080P Maxed

The 1060 will absolutely not max 1080p @ 60 fps, let alone going forward.

Truth is, since release the 480 has gained a lot of ground on the 1060 even in DX11, and it's only going to get better. In DX12/Vulkan it's not even a contest. It's hard to recommend the 1060 anymore. And considering you can do 4K, the 480 absolutely smashes the 1060 at that res (not to mention how invaluable the extra 2 gb of vram is).

All that said, I'd still say go for the 1070 and enjoy 4K. :P

What? The 1060 absolutely does 60fps max settings. How do I know this? I have one. And currently, the 1060 comes out on top in most titles. The extra vram doesn't make a difference at 1080, at higher resolutions it might, but not at 1080.

What 1060 card do you own and what games have you tested it with? Obviously you have one since you know so much.

Which 1060 do you have?

Wonder if I can get away with using Molex to 8pin adapters with my PSU, normally I wouldn't even consider it but the 360w Seasonic G Series Gold is a pretty good PSU.

I wouldn't choose to game at 4k unless I had sli 1080s. Sub 60fps and medium settings is plain nasty compared with high frame rate, refresh and settings.

The 1060 fails to max many games, in fact almost all the new arrivals, even at 1080p.
Obviously, look at the results for the 6gb version in the reviews.

Here's which ones: Anno 2205, Ashes of the Singularity, AC: Syndicate, Far Cry Primal, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Divison, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, The Witcher 3, Total War Warhammer, XCOM 2, Deus Ex Mankind Divided.

I'm not even taking into accounts mods and the list will do nothing but keep growing.

^^I found at leat 3 of those titles were in the region of 55-59fps so am overclock would
Easily sort that out.

That's because they don't really max the games either, so actually pushing settings would keep you well under 60. Besides, 55 is irrelevant if it isn't 60 due to Vsync, and if you don't Vsync then you're gonna screen tear in a lot of games.

Bit the bullet this morning and ordered the following for Sunday:

Was tempted to get an extra 16GB ram to go with the 8 that I have at the moment, but I don't think I need it just yet.

Don't spoil it with only 8Gb RAM. That's poverty spec right there. ;)

Everything else looks good though.
