Any difference if I have a 27’’ 4k monitor and run it at 2560x1440 instead of 4k? Does that give me the extra pixels for clarity or do I need to run it at 4k and use scaling? (You know, much like a iMac 5k doesnt actually run at 5k native res).

Id like to benefit from the 4k at 2560... otherwise might as well have a 27’’ 2560 monitor, no?

You need to run the monitor at native 4K and use scaling otherwise desktop stuff will look really bad and have no benefit.

For gaming you can often get away with running at a lower resolution.

What you're referring to is Windows scaling, and a value of 150% is effectively 2560x1440 on a 4K screen. You'll get sharper text but some apps may not play so well.
