I have a 980ti and looking to get a new monitor in the next month or so. Im stuck as to what to go for... 4k or Gsync. I want at least 27". I would ideally like a 4k gsync but thats wayyyyy to much money.

I don't play competitively, so that pushes me towards a 4k monitor but at the same time I'd love buttery smooth gameplay.

Having never seen a 4k monitor before or a Gsync... i am really undecided on what to go for. All i have seen are 4k tv's.

if u want buttery smooth get a Gsync..but not in 4k

id really love a 4k monitor too as i do 4k gopro vids..but alas..i game too and even with my titanx u cant run all games at max and be smooth...im prob gonna get the dell s2716dg to tie me over till 4k gets better monitors and the gpu grunt to run it sweet :D

I'd say have a punt on the Dell S2716DG if you can afford it. With a semi reasonable calibration they look fantastic and very smooth.

Depends on what games you play, newer more demanding games won't run too well on a single 980ti at 4k, some games don't run too well on 2 x 980 tis as I found out,

A 980ti plays all the games I sink most time into at a solid 60fps. I play ARPGs and Skyrim at the moment. I recently fired up GW2 to see how it runs and it's also getting high frames on max settings.

On the other hand, if you load up a modern fps and want to play smoothly at 4K you'll be disappointed. Ever thought about a 34" curved ultra wide?

Skyrim isn't that challenging on any semi recent GPU unless you have something really extreme mod wise - even at 4K I can hold 58fps (capped to stop physics exploding/mouse sensitivity issues) unless I enable proper 8K long range shadows - but that would bring even a 980ti to its knees.

Please be more specific.....
You say 4K Gsync is way too much money, however you do not state how much is your budget. Acer XB280HK/XB281HKV can be found for much less than £500 brand new in UK, at the same money of the S2716DG

A generic 40" 4K is at the same money also.

And I assume you want TN Panel, because IPS Gsync you should be ready to spend much more.

I had a 4K screen for a while, but at 28" it wasn't really much benefit, got a 1440/144hz screen and never looked back. The dell gsync screen is currently a fantastic price and I would snap one up while they are on offer :)
