Sorry I do not know much on the subject but why would a monitor manufacturer even consider making a monitor that is only capable of 30hz?

Is there a application where 30hz is beneficial?

Nope its poor to be honest, but they clearly want to hit a price point and for some it will be acceptable, I would not find it acceptable and I would not buy one. I'd spend the extra for IPS and 60Hz! :)

Photographers dont need 60hz for editing so its a steal for them. Getting in the right direction if you ask me

A photographer would not buy a TN panel over a high quality IPS one.

I don't see a place for this monitor when it seems the new Asus, Samsung and Lenovo 4K TN panels are all 60Hz for prices around the same.

These are perfect for people that just want to say to there friends i have 4k monitor.
Or to people that see 4k monitor for 500 Google what 4k is then instantly buy it not reading or maybe not knowing what there buying.
Its also perfect for anyone that does not game.
Or for some one that works in an office and likes the res for i don't know word docs.

I bet OCUK would never tell us how many of these things they sell in the nest 6 months but at that price there a good deal for allot of non pro gamer tecnerd type people. prob perfect for the kids room for there PS3/4. kids are not going to know about fps and crap but can be all cool and show off they they have a 4k tv, other kids are not going to know **** and will be like dam that's sweet **** man, baller (i don't know what kids say anymore)

EDIT: looking at the £900 one it says "Optimal resolution: 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz (DP1.2) / 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz HDMI" am i been dumb but HDMI should be able to do 60Hz ~ 4k??????
EDIT: yer me been dumb need hdmi 2.0 for that...

A) HDMI

The current HDMI 1.4 standard only has bandwidth for 4K at 30hz. HDMI 2.0 will add support for 4K at 60Hz. Details should become clearer in late 2013. There are a few TVs on sale today that support 4K @ 30Hz through HDMI.

B) DisplayPort 1.2

DisplayPort can support 4K @ 60Hz using Multi-Stream Transport(MST). The graphics card provides signals for multiple displays but these are multiplexed on a single cable. Computer monitors such as the ASUS PQ321Q 31.5-in 4K 60 Hz Tiled Monitor take input using this format.

EDIT: soooooo if you would like 4k @ 60 Hz you need one GFX card per screen? as you only get one DP 1.2 on new cards. that's going to start getting super expensive if you would like 2-3 screens even if the price of the screens comes down to a nice level.
