4k newbie question..

ok, first post and I am by no means an expert so i appreciate all help and your patience with something that I hope is straightforward..

I upgraded my old GFX card to the awesome Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 295 X2 the other week and its running great and I can max out everythign I throw at it.. So far so good!

I game in the living room and I am running my PC through my Sony 4k TV (this one http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/televisions/x8500b-series)

I would like to run my games (in particular Elite Dangerous) in 4k on this TV, however I have hit a snag.

The card doesnt have an HDMI port only DVI or Mini Display Port.. Hopefully I am being crushingly stupid but how can I run 4k from this card through to my TV??

The R9 295X2 generally has only displayports as they are currently the only output that supports 4K @ 60Hz whereas HDMI maxes at 30hz, this makes a big difference in gameplay but is still playable. As for getting it to work, This cable from Maplin will allow it to work:

I wonder if ther are any mini-display port to HDMI 2.0 adapter yet so that may be OP can game on his Sony on 4K/60Hz...

Last time I checked there were no DP or mDP to HDMI adapters that let you run HDMI 2.0/60Hz 4K (full range) from a PC.

Also even at 30Hz you will find there are some distance limitations on getting a stable 4K signal cable wise and 60Hz more so - so if your planning on having the PC at a distance or in another room that may not work too well.

Ryan, looking at the link you gave I noticed that it mentions that the cable can display 1080P resolutions or 1920 x 1200 dp.. I notice it says CAN so does this mean it can also do above that??

With your TV, the only way to achieve 4k @ 60fps is to SLI Nvidia 9 series cards, as they output HDMI 2.0.
