I need a laptop with a 15" or 17" screen at 4k that is also capable of running an external monitor at 4k.

It is not for gaming so I am not fussed about graphics. Hard disk requirement is only 128GB but would need to be an SSD. I can always upgrade to an SSD if it is not supplied with one as standard.

It's tricky to find a laptop at 15"+ with a UHD display (particularly ones that aren't branded as gaming), however there is virtually nothing under £1500 that I can see

Dell have the XPS 15 with a UHD display, I believe they also have the Inspiron 15 as well. I saw a Dell with UHD in a shop on Saturday, but I forget which model it actually was (pretty sure it was wasn't XPS, might have been the Inspiron though I can't find it on their website now), however it seemed reasonably well specced in terms of CPU and SSD (think it also had a 1050 GPU) and it seemed solid enough for travel

Other options are:
HP EliteBook 850 G5 (8 series CPU, 1050ti GPU)
Gigabyte Aero 15x (8 series CPU, 1070 GPU)
RAZER Blade 15.6" (8 series CPU, 1060 GPU)
MSI GT62VR (7 series CPU, 1070 GPU)
MSI GS73 Stealth (8 series CPU, 1070 GPU)

Pretty sure they all come with SSD as standard (NVMe in more gaming oriented ones cases)

Probably a few others, particularly on the MSI, ASUS or Acer line, though they are gamer branded, but the ones I've listed do look a little more discreet (though the MSI ones are borderline... ;) )

I've been leaning towards the Aero 15x myself, though haven't quite got around to biting the bullet yet!

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I guess that's why I was struggling to find anything suitable. I'm not bothered if it looks like a gaming laptop but a 15"+ screen is a must, 17" would be ideal. I don't mind spending some money if it means I get what I need.

If I drop the 4k screen requirement (although must be capable of 4k output on external monitor) then there are a lot more options. Are most mid-range/high end laptops capable of 4k output these days or should I be looking for particular graphics adaptors?

Thanks again.
