Hi
I'm currently looking at ideas of a gamin build i hope to get before christmas time.

I like th idea of 4k gaming, but get the impression that monitors are 100% there just yet and would require a significant investment.

I'm thinking about getting a 980ti to start off with, and maybe add another one within 4-6 months after.
I like the idea of having a dual screen, but again would only buy a second screen 4-6 months after everything else.

What are peoples thoughts about gaming at 4k with 2 980Ti's and with 2 ROG swifts or 4K monitors?
I admit i have been away from tech news side so not too sure whats out there and whats good or not good at present.

Gaming with two screens isn't a good idea because the divide between screens will be where the action is happening (e.g. where your crosshair is, the centre of the screen). For gaming you really need either 1 or 3 monitors.

Unless your set on 4k in which case a titan x would be the way to go.

The ROG swift is a great monitor and 1440p for me is the sweet spot for gaming. Though I'd game on one and get another monitor for desktop stuff at the side for cheaper.

A 980 ti does the same for less.

Hmm, thank you all for comments, certainly food for though.
I agree with your comment Lee32uk, 980ti same for less.
Especially since this would be an incremental build.

So I get the impression that 1 980ti would be sufficient for 1 4K screen

Which monitor will have to be another question for another day judging by the commnets in the monitors board.

I am not necessarilys et on 4K, I am thinking, with the amount of money I plan to spend on this, I would hope this lasts for a good 3 years or so, by which time I would hope 4K is a standard, also thinking about having a 4k tv in the room as well to link up to possibily. Another incremental build.

Thanks all for your comments!

I'm in a similar position having just built my rig and now I need a decent monitor and gpu, I'm so tempted by 4k and 980ti myself. The way I see it is a 4k monitor will be an investment and even if current gpu struggle with 4k next year we have the next gen gpus which should be a big leap, pascal with 8gb+ hbm will be very interesting!

Problem is there is no 4k monitor thats recommended. Ideally you need 4k and gsync but there just isnt one thats worth it.

Dont buy Acer at all.
Consider Samsung/Asus/Dell 4k (no gsync).

If someone produces a decent non Acer 4k Gsync that has none of the standard monitor issues its going in my shopping basket. However I cant see this happening till at least next year.

I have the acer 4k gsync monitor and it is amazing.

If your worried about acers customer service just buy from a reputable source, touch wood though I have had no issues with mine and after looking into it further before buying there does not seem to be the issues with the 4k monitor that people have being having with the ips screen.

Agreed acer are horrific!

Asus are very good imho.

Its difficult.
I have heard good and bad reviews of Acer, the build quality does seem to be lacking, exspecially for a £500+ monitor.
My past few Asus moniotrs have alwyas seemed good, I have been looking at both the Swift PG27AQ and Swift PG278Q, 4K and 1440p respectively.
Its a very difficult choice due to refresh rates vs resolution.
I suppose, me planning on a having a 980Ti SLI, any upcoming 4K monitor which can push above the 60hz, the GPUs should be able to hande
