Hi all I recently purchased two Titan Pascal just waiting on the HB SLI Bridge to arrive. Took a while decide if I was going to buy or not.

Now I have a harder decision to make and would appreciate some advice. Need to upgrade my monitor as only running a 1080p monitor at the moment.

Been looking at two choices the Asus 27 4K Gsync and the Asus 34 Ultrawide curved 1440p Ultrawide Gsync.

Which way would people recommend to go.

Acer XB321HK - Fantastic 4k monitor and with Gsync

Definetely wanting to go with Gsync never used but everyone seems sat it's good. Hadn't noticed that monitor to be honest will consider it. How are Acer with there warranty. I know Asus are meant be excellent for there's on monitors.

erm, its not even close, 4k gives slightly higher definition, ultrawide gives you much more fov in supported games (which is a lot these days)

ultrawide all day all night.

oh and plus if you get the asus it will be 100hz too, so smoother than any 4k

True the extra headroom for FPS would certainly be nice and most benchmarks seem to show Titan Pascal SLI can manage around 100FPS barrier at Ultrawide 1440p.

Is the Ultrawide aspect going feel werid doing everyday things or watching films/tv with a 34 inch screen would likely do that a fair bit.

If a film is displayed in 21:9, as many are, you come up trumps having a superwide. If you watch TV on a superwide you will have big black borders either side.
I do watch all my TV on my gaming screen, which is one reason I prefer 16:9. The 21:9 films have the borders top and bottom, but I don't mind that as much, and films are a small % of my viewing.

Thanks for the info.

Hmm got offered a 27 inch dell Gsync for £350-380

So that is also another option having a standard 1440p monitor but not sure if Titan Pascal SLI would be overkill for that.

Ultrawide, tried both and UW is the one for me. Plus you don't need as much grunt to game at 1440p then you do 4k.

Don't think grunt is a big problem with Titan Pascal SLI lol but I get where you are coming from man.

Ultrawide all the way...

A vote from me for ultra wide as well. Great alrounder.

Thanks for comments guys looks like the more expensive Asus might be the way to go.

Problem is even 1 TXP is fairly overkill for that monitor, 2 is just silly!! Let's just say it'll last you 5 years or so....:D

TXP SLi is made for 4k imo, pretty much perfect

Yeah I thought it was more made for 4K then 1440p and even 1440p Ultrawide I see why people are recommending it though. Pity 4K ultrawide doesn't exist but then I might be struggling. Well heard about 4K Gaming for a long time I guess it's time I see what it's like for myself.

Which makes no sense to me. 4K is still an infant. 21:9 a teenager. Both have their difficulties and hassle, but I know which I'd rather have in my house! If you want neither though, and prefer a fully fledged adult, just get a top end 1080p 144Hz TN monitor and don't look back... for gaming they really can't be beat for overall smoothness. Sure, you sacrifice colour accuracy and viewing angles, but if ALL you care about is the ultimate buttery smooth gaming experience, it's the way to go... and they're cheaper.

21:9 has a way to go yet. The X34/PG348Q use the same panel and they are the pinnacle of the tech currently. Neither is perfect. There are some interesting new models in the pipeline though, so will be interesting to see what happens next year.

4K just makes no sense to me. You need a Titan X Pascal to run ALL games smoothly (but you're still relying on good optimisation), and even then you're limited to 60Hz. So yeah, paying nearly £2K (monitor+GPU alone) for a solid consistent 60FPS makes PERFECT sense lol! ;)

I have two Titan Pascal just waiting on my HB Bridge to arrive so sheer grunt should not be a problem already invested a lot into my system.

Been offered a 4K Asus ROG Swift for £485 and think I'm going for that

Thanks for all the comments I do agree with some of them.

Maybe it will only be a stopgap monitor but at £485 it can afford to be I wanted to test out 4K and Gsync with the Asus Monitor I will be able to. It would have been a far more bitter pill to swallow if I had paid a thousand for a ultra wide and then next year brought a ultra wide 4K or something similar.

My current monitor is a old dell 24 inch 1080p IPS panel 60hz never seen 100hz so won't miss out. I will probably look forward to seeing 4K 144HZ monitors but I had to decide now and the price I got it for was a big swing vote for me.

I'm sorry I can't please you all but appreciate comments all the same.

You don't have to please anyone... as long as YOU'RE happy that's all that matters. As I've said though, this is not one of those things you can really know until you've seen both. I'm sure you would be happy with whatever, providing you don't get a monitor full of backlight bleed or some other horrible fault that ruins your gaming experience. Ultimately it comes down to what you consider more important that's all... but obviously budget dictates what's possible, and at £485 a top end 21:9 is out of your reach anyway, so it's a moot point.

Don't worry, 4K ultrawide isn't going to appear anytime soon (2-3 years at least I'd say), but 4K at 100Hz+ absolutely will be here soon... that will pretty much overnight make all 4K 60Hz monitors largely irrelevant. The likes of the X34 actually do have more longevity.

Budget wasn't an issue i've already spent thousands on my Graphics Cards it was more the fact that I could get a 4K ROG Swift for that price. would have paid basically £1000 for a ultrawide but in end I wanted to see what 4K was truly like and thought ultrawide would not be using my two Titan Pascal cards properly.

As you say 4K 100Hz are around the corner I might buy one of those when they come out but I might not depends on situation. Just like getting a 5930K for a good price was good sense for me I'm not truly on a budget for my system build but if I can get the same product for less I would be stupid not to.

UW with 100Hz, 60Hz doesn't cut it anymore. Although if I could afford 2xPascal Titans I would be running both a 4k KS8000 and a UW for desktop use.

Never played with a monitor above 60fps so for me it's not a loss but I understand what your saying.

you thought wrong again,

wonder what the total pixel rate at ultrawide is at 100hz vs 4k 60 hz is

hmm, maths!

4k @ 60hz = 497,664,000 pixels per sec
ultrawide @ 100hz = 495,360,000 pixels per sec

unless i fail in the calculation somewhere that would indicate that the power required is basically the same for both.

and ultra will be far and away better with both the fov AND refresh ;)

I seem to get this vibe from you that I have somehow offended you by going 4K don't know why.

not at all, your reasoning for 4k, for the most part, doesnt hold water. you are of course free to use whatever display you so desire :)

My reasoning is that I want to see what 4K is like and fact I got a top quality 4K monitor for a good price. This probably won't be my monitor for a massive amount of time will look at 4K 120Hz whenever they come out. But need a monitor for a intermediate time frame instead of keeping my 1080p Dell.

I haven't even seen a 100Hz monitor so won't notice anything different and if I go with Ultrawide i'm on dead end for a while to come and 4K Gaming is the future maybe it's not truly here yet but it's nothing wrong with putting foot in door first. Unless people are really going argue that 4K 120Hz is going be a terrible sidegrade as well. If I go 4K now I get used to how it looks get the bump in resolution for gaming and later down the line I get to see what extra frames look like.

Rest of my system at Present is

5930K
EVGA Micro 2
Corsair Dominator 32GB 2666MHz
Corsair HX1000i
Kingston Hyper X 960GB SSD [2.5 inch]

Going to get a M.2 SSD waiting for 960 EVO or Pro

Getting ready to do a full custom loop just waiting on my Custom Parvum Case to be finished.

Don't think it's to bad a set up to be honest.

The fact you admit to not even having seen an ultra-wide screen makes this whole thread somewhat laughable. A million responses here won't glean you with the requisite knowledge. You HAVE to see the options with your own eyes. As you are only seeing ONE option (i.e the 4K screen you have purchased for a good price), it renders this whole discussion somewhat pointless, as you will quite simply be utterly ignorant of the alternative. But that is, as they say, bliss. :)

At some point I would highly recommend you track down an X34/PG348Q to have a go on, if for no other reason so as to satisfy your curiosity and be able to offer your OWN opinion on the matter for anyone else on the fence... the endless circle must continue dammit! ;)

I understand what your saying and other bits of the build are that I wanted to see what a true custom case was like or top graphics power and watercooling.

But I will try find time look at a 21:9 monitor.

How are you getting on with your 4k?
I'm using a 27" LG 4k IPS and I find the sheer pixel density can give me a bit of motion sickness at times, which I wasn't expecting.
(I turned off windows anims which made it more comfy for general use)
Nice screen to use though.
I haven't found text scaling to be a problem.

Not sure why some people are so bothered about your choice of monitor - well worth trying at that price
You never know what these things are like until you live with them.

Personally, coming from a £1,000 graphics high res, high refresh CRT monitor I find all these IPS screens look unnatural but I'm trying to get used to them.

I haven't got yet it should be coming Monday or Tuesday. Glad that someone understands where I am coming from though.
