Might be a really daft question, I was going to purchase a full HD 1080p 40" TV for our bedroom connected to Freeview/Now TV.. but I've notice all I can find is 4K TVs by default it seems.

I've seen this for under £500...

Samsung UE43NU7400U 7 Series - 43" LED TV

My question is, although these look great on 4K demos, how are they going to look when viewing Standard HD or standard definition broadcasting? That's a lot of missing pixels to make up for.

A friend of mine a Sammy 55" UHD TV, and HD up scaling looks rubbish.

Thoughts?

I'm sure killing off SDR would be good in terms of freeing up some bandwidth (if that's a thing) but you'll probably find there are some people who own TV's that don't support HD at all.

CRT's definitely wouldn't.

Then they would need to announce a switch deadline date.. Similar to that of the Analogue/Digital switch.

Pure greed to profit more money, to torture people more and ultimately, in the future to destroy entire countries. They are slowly killing the population there.

HD channels can be viewed on SD CRTs, by the way.

???? Good grief, can't even ask a technical question without a political motivated statement being made. Some bored people in the world. :(
