hi guys.

I've git a Philips 4k Android / Smart TV and was wondering the best way to stream 4k content to it from my PC.

Before I'd just use kodi that is installed on the TV but for some reason it's resolution is only 720 in the app so now i would like 4k it's no use.

Thanks.

Netflix and Amazon prime apps should both support 4k with any limited content they may have.
4k rips are quite a way off if that's what you're after, barely anything is filmed at the resolution yet.

Just install the Plex server on your PC and add your libraries to it, then you just need a client device. Your TV may have one available as an app (not sure on Android TVs), otherwise there are Plex clients available for most popular devices such as Roku, FireTV, AppleTV. Failing that just use a Raspberry Pi :)

What Plex client are you using on the TV end? :) I bought a 4K TV recently which doesnt have a built in client unfortunately, and my ageing NOWTV sideloaded plex clients are 720p max which obviously isnt ideal.

Me? I'm using a Raspberry Pi 3 running Rasplex which seems to be about the cheapest option.

A Pi2 will also do a perfectly decent job but the 3 has the benefit of built-in Wifi, which Rasplex will use without issue.

My TV is an Android so i can download apps to it. So i'm just using the one from the google store.

I dont see the reference to 4K with rasplex, does it definitely do it using a pi3?

Ah, forgot the 4K bit - I honestly don't know as I don't have a 4K set right now. I know Plex generally supports 4K but not which clients do I'm afraid.

EDIT: From what I can tell, the Plex Media Player supports 4K. This is available for multiple platforms, including the Raspberry Pi but is currently in Beta so only available if you have a Plex Pass sub.

EDIT2: Also supported on the 4K Fire TV with some caveats: http://www.aftvnews.com/plex-adds-support-for-4k-playback-on-the-2nd-gen-amazon-fire-tv/

LOL .... what ???

Its been that resolution for decades.... in fact films made in the 50/ 60s still have a better resolution than 4k.

It's only fx that's better in films. Tv tech and portables are still way behind. Apart from 8k.

I have a Sony android TV with Kodi installed and set at 1080p. It will play UHD films with no problem and auto switches the TV rez.

i can't seem to get my kodi app to go higher than 720. Where normally the options in kodi to change it, there is nothing there. Tried everything :(

That is strange. You could try playing a 1080p film and Kodi should play the film in 1080p.
Same as mine is set to 1080p but will go to UHD when playing a UHD film. Try it.
