I'm considering getting a new PC next week, I've not had one for years (been using Macs) but my present iMac is in need of an upgrade.

It will be used for Photo/Video editing and gaming. Needs to be able to that at 4K.

As it's been so long since I've had to consider or look at bits I've no idea about CPUs etc. so when recommending a system would appreciate if you give reasoning behind your choice.

Budget around £3K or so... that's excluding peripherals etc which I already have.. I will need a monitor too but that's not included in budget.

guessing your using Adobe to edit videos and photos ?

heads up, worth looking at BenQ pro series, they do 99% Adobe RGB IPS monitors, but are like £1300

kicker is, 5ms response time for gaming ( though if your not a pro gamer should be fine ) and 10 bit via 8 + FRC so can use nvidia consumer cards :)

true 10 bits like the BenQ PV3200PT you'd need a workstation card - but i think Vega does support this as well

Thanks. I'm not too sure what I'll do for a monitor, for GPU was probably thinking 2080Ti card so I'll decide on a monitor(s) next week.

For 4k gaming you want the Acer Nitro 4K (4k at up to 144 Hz). You really, really do. You will want a separate monitor for photo editing - one of the Dell Ultras, perhaps? For a GPU, go for the RTX 2080 Ti. That will be the bulk of your budget. You will have plenty of funds left over for a 9900 / Threadripper build.

That's actually quite an interesting choice for monitors, I was talking to a friend tonight and said I may go for 2 monitors, best of both worlds I guess doing it that way. It was either that or an ultra wide.

Never heard of the Acer monitor but seems to have good reviews.
 
If using Adobe, go for a monitor that has 99% Adobe range, £400 dell IPS Vs £900 BenQ is quite a difference In Quality , but could justify cheaper monitor if your not printing . That's the killer for photowork , printing and it looking nothing like how it was on the screen

Yeah I'm not going to be mean with monitor/s, everything I use is calibrated and I do print at A3+

think you might have to fun dual set up !

slightly over but give you 4k gaming with option to G-sync with Freesync screen and push over 60hz limit of most 4k monitors ! 2080ti is only card that would have min frame rates of 60 fps on over 50% of titles, first true 4k card

NVME drive for heavy batch work, video editing and file migration - if not, save £100 and go 1TB Sata 3 SSD
silent case and Cooler without breaking the bank.

Thanks for that, it is close to a recommendation a friend made. I had increased my budget to around £3500 excluding monitor/s.. on that basis anything you would change?

I don't know much about PC builds these days but my mate said I needed faster memory than 3000Mhz.. is there much difference?

im tight , have a large budget excluding monitors but doesn't have to mean you've got to spend it all for the same performance with saving a few hundred :)

Master is a DAMN good board, 12+2 up, Uses IR mosfet - bees kness, but Aorus elite to Ultra is 12+1 set up but uses slightly cheaper Mosfet that can sometimes handle mroe power... just hotter .
To be honest, you may like the Designare board if your coming from Apple due to being one of the few boards that support ThunderBolt 3 !

That ram, pointless, rather have the 32gb over 16gb for video editing!

Thanks, excellent advice... think I'm pretty much sorted on what to put in the PC build.... only the monitor choice now delaying my order lol

acer nitro for cheap 4k gaming that can handle over 60hz ! official nvidia version is £1800 ++++ ! and also 27"

**just realised that is 99% adobe range and 600 nit screen... in theory , BenQ SW271 is £1000 and that Nitro is £900....

rather save that money and push the Nitro 4k freesync monitor that is G-sync compatible with a BenQ Professional Adobe RGB monitor
