4k TVs, HDMI 2.0

Hi,

Several 2014 "UHD" 4k TVs are out now, with HDMI 2.0 ports. Does anyone out there have one? I would really appreciate knowing what kind of resolutions you can push to it from current GPUs.

I have R9 290s, and they do not technically have HDMI 2.0 ports. However the HDMI ports they have do support the necessary clock and bandwidth to push a 4k 60hz signal. I think the situation is the same on the nvidia side.

I have a 2013 UHD TV, and for ~£300 I can get it HDMI 2.0 ports. I will be happy to spend that for 4k60, but less happy to spend it if my current cards will still be stuck at 30hz. I cannot find any definitive answer on whether the TV will accept the signal.

If anyone here has a HDMI 2.0 display I would really be grateful if you could let me know just what you can do with it...

Thanks!

Thanks Gregster. I have been following your thread with the various benchmarks and info, all very good stuff. I am fairly certain the UD590 you have is HDMI 1.4 though? Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of a display port :(

Ahhhh I see your predicament and yep, HDMI 1.4 :(

Perhaps something that you could add to your thread Greg, for people to make sure they get a screen with a DP Port.

I think i miss understood this, your 290 does have a DP Port.

He has a UHD TV and that doesn't have a DP connector. I think if he spends on it to make it HDMI 2.0, it would still only play at 30Hz though but that I can't answer and purely guessing.

Right, so back to my original suggestion, im just think it might be a good idea to tell people about the difference between HDMI and DP. thats all :)

I didn't think so either but didn't want to say in case I was wrong.

1.4a is the highest if I am correct?

Correct, but it is not a physical limitation on what the card can output over HDMI. I don't recall the clocks or bandwidth numbers to hand, but HDMI 1.4a is something like 340mhz, the HDMI port on AMD's cards is 600mhz. This apparently makes it more than capable of 4k60 over HDMI.

The TV is obviously capable of receiving 4k60 over HDMI, but I have no idea what it will make of AMD's implementation. The only way to be sure is to try it, but I hoped someone else might have the hardware to hand already :)

I have 2 R9 290s, a 1000w powersupply and a UHD TV over the last couple of months, this extra £300 will tip my wife over the edge if it doesn't work.

Actually come to think of it that might be kinda funny....

I like surprises.

I suppose I could buy it anyway, and hope a displayport -> HDMI 2.0 adapter appears one day.
